Tyres

I know I am probably gonna get a slating for this but looking for some tyre advice.

Recently got the Rubber Queens, and although they grip well, there is very little clearance between the tyre and front of the chain/seat stays at the rear of my Anthem (see picture) Makes it very difficult to get mud clearance and getting lots of frame rub. Gonna move these to an old hardtail I am building up (slowly) but looking to get something similar in terms of width and grip with a lower profile for more clearance. Had Ignitors which ran well but kept blistering. UST ideal.

Fire away with the slating and suggestions.

What size tyre?

What do mean blistering Gary? The tyre in your photo looks very wide - I would have thought that anything bigger than a 2.1 would be too big for an Anthem! Personally swear by UST Ignitors but there are lots of people on here better qualified than me to comment!

For the Anthem a nice Rocket Ron 2.1 or a Nobby Nic from Expert Cycles is what you need... Loads of clearance with them...

Thanks Guys. Richard, current tyres are 2.2, run other 2.2's beofre and width OK but profile too highont the Queens. What I mean by Blistering on the Ignitors is that after a few months there appeared a number of large blisters/"bubbles" on the tyre surface, almost as if the outer layer separated from the lower/casing. I have used 3 pairs of ignitors over the years and like the "feel" of them, just looking for something more durable.

jesus wept..they are all feckin deadly tyres..ignitors, nobby nics, piranhas..you name it..its the rider not the tyres. ANd Graham..you are the last person to discuss tyres.

On the front, anything in 2.3 with plenty of side knobblies ! I usually use whatever I can get cheap in UST.
Learn to ride your bike properly and you won't ever need to ask about tyres !

He has plenty in stock, they are good if you are considering racing too, nice and light...loads of grip...

rocket rons are not for you !! they are an xc racing tyre ! get the Nobby Nics !!!

If you like the feel of the queen's get the new Mountain King. They have similar threads but are narrower in profile and clear mud a bit better. A 2.4 MK is narrower that 2.2 RQ.
