EPICmtb has come in to the possession of this iconic Bike , used for racing only by Ru Devoy. Ru Devoy was a little black kid who battled his way from a poor background in Crumlin or Drimnagh , one of those inner city places where people still eat Coddle when it gets chilly and own overcoats.
I first met Ru at a training camp out of The Merry Poughboy , where the worlds greatest riders were preparing for a savage season , monsters of MTB like Damian Duggan, Eamon O Neill, Don O Connor and a young and unblooded Alfie Wallace also attended.
Straight away I could tell from his focussed calm demeanour that Ru was going to go on to be a world beater but what really caught my attention was the way he handled his bike " Old Red " , it was watching him carving the turns and roosting the gnar on Old Red that I realised that I was watching something magical, the perfect meld of man and machine.
This was no ordinary matrimony of rider and bike, this was something deeper, like Angel and Buffy or Beans and toast.
So after a series of major titles under his belt, Ru abandoned the high life of an international club league superstar to concentrate on his breeding, driven by forces only Carpenters with beards can understand Ru began his quest to repopulate the recession ruined country with even more Carpenters..
and so here we are, hes attempting a comeback, believing that only a new Bike, one that comes with a built in flash and a setting for automatic can bring him back from the brink of oblivion, he is selling the one thing that made him real, old Red !
