saddle for endurance races

recommend me a good saddle for endurance racing. minimum requirement for posting is one six hour race !!

Used to do loads of marathon (80km+) and the odd stage race (4day) all on sella Italia gel flow SLR xc. No sensation loss and only ever had saddle sores once (9 hours in the rain to blame not the saddle). Only issue ever had was breaking the titanium rails on a heavy descent but that saddle was 5 yrs old.

I'd have to agree with Gary, bear in mind that Selle Italia have been making saddles for a very long time, I have used them for sitting on the sofa watching telly for hours , I like the fiziks as well, especially the Gobi.
But if you really want to enjoy your endurancing, get some Assos cream on to your buttocks, its like Cocaine for your arse!

Dont know about 6 hrs but i have done lots of 4hr cycles and races and I use Fizik Gobi, best saddle I have had by far. You dont need fancy cream or cocaine for arse just good auld Vaseline

I've used the Charge Spoon (get them from wiggle, think about 25 euro or something) for Bontrager 24/12 (24 hour solo), the bull raid (12 hour solo) and 10 Under the Ben (10 hour race at Fort William) and had no problems at all.

Had tried a good few specialized saddles, WTB and a few others and just couldn't find a comfy one till i tried this one.

What works for one doesn't work for others when it comes to saddles Ger! Like Smithers I swear by the Fizik Gobi but that could be because we both have fat arses! As far as I know the Cycle Superstore has trial Fizik saddles - it would be worth trying one for a few days to see what you think!

i have the muscular arse of a racehorse and I have no problem with the Fizik Gobi..the way I see it, you buy a saddle made by a Saddle making company , you wouldn't buy a box of Condoms made by people who normally make rollerskates now would you ? and you have not lived till you have greased your buttocks with Assos Chamois cream ..

I agree, I haven't really noticed any difference between the good saddles I used in terms of comfort. As long as they are set up right it's all fine.
The only thing I don't like in mtb saddles are pointy rear ends like in this one, I used to get stabbed by one of those when going down stuff behind the saddle.


I have some Felt job on the Horn that I got from Byrner some time ago and it's nice, I did 6h race on it and 10h WW cycle with no issues.
And yes, the Assoss cream is the business.

Fizik Arione is my personal favourite but allot of it is down to what you're used to. Hicks in Sandyford has lots of nice Fizik saddles going cheap.

Damo once loaned his Chamois cream to a lady and she gave it back to him, complete with pubic hair in it !! Hows that for romance !!

The chamois lube'ing session in the back of the tent at the Bellurgan 6 hour with Max last year still haunts me... I think I need a shower

i have photos of that !!
