What is the spec of the bike that they are "building" you for €200?
€200 if very low for any type of bike, for that money you'd probably get a bike of done deal, even if it's a low end mtn bike you can put road tyres on it. You have a fairly long commute from Dalkey to town so don't skimp on the piece of machinery you will be spending a lot of time on... I think Aflie has some nice commuting bikes for about €400, give him a shout.

Shona, you are right, it is a decent trek everyday, it is good experience on my mtb, the road part of end2end was about 25km so good to have biked on the road.
End2End was grand at the start, got across the line at 10.03pm, was doing great for time, until I got stuck in the forest on a single track! Took 45 mins to get through as no one was biking down it, got through 1st check point but was late getting to St Johns and continued on by myself, in hindsight this was a bit silly cause I had not got a clue where I was going but thought signposts would be still up. I ended up on a mountain surrounded by sheep and thankfully got picked up a few kms later by end2end crew because it was windy and started to piss rain and I was losing the will! Did 60km in 5 hours 49 mins so need to improve big time for next year. As there are so few women doing it, good chance of doing good in my category. So lots of practice over the next 12 months!
Dalkey to city centre - 35mins on the bike - I wouldn't buy a second bike for that
Spend the money on better kit / clothes, - coming into winter riding you will need winter gear., winter tires etc

It was previously suggested I buy a second hand guys bike and change the saddle. Most men are taller than 5ft 1 so that not going to work!
Even with road tyres on a MTB is not so good on the road. Ok for short distances but if you are going to commute from Dalkey, you need a road or commuter bike. It is all about rolling resistance so bigger thinner wheels are better.
If your budget can stretch to one of the bikes you linked, buy the Lapierre. It is a female specific design, so the dimensions, angles etc will suit you best. Get properly fitted to whatever bike you choose as it will feel more comfortable and also be more efficient.
call in and talk to me in the Giant Store , Olivia, I will give you expert advice and show you exactly what you need to be doing and exactly what you need to buy. I have a ladies road bikes here that would suit you better.
You obviously have a lot of passion for this and I'd rather see you get good advice and recomendations rather than be bombarded with stuff on the internet. 29'ers do make excellent Commuter/mtbs but I think you went for the wrong size , you just look like you are on a penny farthing in your photos.
in my opinion 29'ers are not for 5'1" people..
I do and I want to improve and get the best performance I can out of my bike. Because there are so few women who do end2end there is a huge chance of doing well in the female categories. I am very passionate about it because I know it is so achieveable with the right toys of course!

Richie, my sincerest apologies for suggesting that she buy a Lappierre from that shower in Cycle Superstore, what was I thinking?? Of course, a Giant would be much better!! I will flagelate myself with barbed wire for such an error!
