Bleeding Hydraulic brakes

Hello Experts..
I've bled several brakes in my time and I was thinking, theres loads of different types, mineral oil, Dot 4/5 etc..AVi,Shimano,Hope all have different bleed things and stuff..
Share your tips here, for my benefit and others.
How do you get a nice crisp feeling to the damn things.
I have deore discs on Carols bike and they are perfect..
I have exactly the same ones only newer on my Patriot..they are spongy and have a very uncrispy feel..
I'm going to bleed them now to see will that make a difference

Here's my technique which I have found works faultlessly.

Insert bike in car.
Drive to Robins.
Remove bike.
A while later return.
Squeeze lever.
Stop.

Life is too short to be covered in brake fluid/and/or have brakes explode coming down Alans trail.

I’d a similar problem with a new set of brakes. Once all the seals are perfect ie, master cap, piston and caliper seals, the best way to get the system perfect is to flush it.. use a large plastic syringe from the caliper end, you might need a second person to keep the master topped up.. but I recon that’ll sort it.. It’s probably a stubborn air bubble in the caliper.

Where the feck’s Al he’s the MoFo for this sort of thing!!

Anyways , I have bled them and they are crispy..lovely and crispy..do they get spongey because of air in them?
Don, why would you not want to learn how to do these things yourself ? When the revolution comes, all you fcukers with more than one toilet will be thrown on a big fire !!

Mark, thats exactly what I did !!

handy tips for shimano is to make the lever level pop the cap on the lever and watch the bubbles rise to the lever. Top it up with mineral oil and stic the cap back on. The air in the system comes from air in the fluid. Particularly with DOT fluid when the oil heats up in boils and the moisture in the fluid that is absorbed into the fluid releases air into the system. Thats why you should always use a fresh bottle of oil when bleeding your brakes. Not such a big deal with mineral oil.

I am happy to give most things a punt, and then get a professional to sort out my mess, but when it comes to brakes I'm not taking any chances. Bring on the revolution, I have my big fence and have four sturdy toilets I can throw at you! Us county folk usually have a surplus of toilets, I bet Skippy has loads.

little trick i use, zip tie the brake over night let all the air go to the top, then top it up.

make sure you unziptie the brake before you take the cover off LOL
