Bike rach recommendations

Hello All,

I have a car with a spoiler on the back which makes fitting a bike rack difficult. In trying to bodge a few racks in the past onto the back of the car i have scratched the bumbers a few times.

So does anyone have any recommendations for a good bike rack and where to get it in Dublin?

hollywood do a rack designed to go over a spoiler and will take 3 bikes there about 125 euro and can be got in any good bike shop.

Saris Bones should do the trick too, works fine with my car and I have a lip spoiler, saris racks can be used on any type of car too i.e hatchback, soloon, jeep etc etc

Towbar rack. Preferably the Witter Cycle Carrier, but this does require a flanged (2-bolt) towbar, most these days are swan neck type. If need be, get a Thule towbar rack, which will fit any towbar type as it screws onto the towball itself.

You will not regret getting a towbar rack. Just imagine never having to faff around with silly straps again.

The places that do towbars should do the Witter racks, e.g. Coby Autos beside the Red Cow Hotel. Or order online from Witter.

second the towbar rack especially if you like your car its an expensive option but is so much less hassle than a boot mounted rack.

Tow bar racks are definitly the best option. I have the three bike carrier version of the Thule Ride on and its great. Getting bikes on and off is really quick and easy.

I've that Thule too - rock solid - has never moved even in crosswinds on the M1 with 3 hefty bikes on the bike, worth the money for sure

I have the Saris and its deadly...The arms that you mount the bike onto fold down which is handy aswell...Its solid as a rock even with 3 bikes on it.Definite thumbs up.

I had trouble with a hatch spoiler so I got one of these Thule roof carriers:

Very handy and lockable though there's a weight limit of 37lbs and it doesn't help the fuel consumption.

I had a saris bones a while ago, it works very well, but little bits of dirt got between where it contacted the boot and it kind of scrached the paint like sandpaper.

I just use a thule 591 roofrack and just leave it on. You don't have to take it on and off and store it anywhere. It handles most bikes, well all bike except some dh ones. It takes
like 10secs to tie the bike up.

I would only use this type on the roof I had a cheaper one and my DH bike nearly flew off the roof it dented the roof and scratched the hell out of it.

He fits tow bars, sells bike racks too.

I have a Pendle bike rack bolted onto the towbar, takes 3 bikes on the tow bar, solid like the rock, the two bars fit very neatly in the boot when not in use and bikes on the back don't hammer fuel comsumption like the roof mounted ones do.
All muck and crap falls away from the car too.

Rex I have no idea how mechanically minded you are or what your car is like to put one on but I'm saving a fortune by buying a tow bar for my focus on eBay and fitting it myself, I was getting quotes of about €300 fitted for a witter tow bar but I'm getting it from eBay delivered for less than €110 and it's straight forward to fit on the focus anyway it’s about an hours work. Might be worth a look.
