Making the cut

Just took delivery of a new front fork. The steer tube is about 2 inch's longer then the one i took out.. Probably a silly question, but, do i cut it or make up the difference with spacers(that would be a right few spacers)?

Cut twice, measure once. Cut again, measure, beat the cat with whatever is left.

I would leave about 3 spacers below and 2 above the stem, least if you ever go to sell them theres still enough to fit other bikes man!
