Hardtail Options: KTM Ultra 1964 Vs Genesis Latitude

Hi,
New to the forum and getting back into biking after a long break. Getting a hard tail and hope to some trails with a view to competing in xc when my fitness is up to scratch.
Using the bike to work scheme and have narrowed my choice to either a KTM ULTRA 1964 limited edition or a Genesis Latitude both on 27.5s

Both have similar specs, only real difference is KTM Alloy frame with 100mm fork travel. Genesis is steel frame with 120mm fork travel.
Anyone see any reason to choose one over the other?
I can get the Genesis €200 cheaper

Two bikes are OK wouldn't be getting overly excited about the spec on them. Neither brand is that common so don't know much about them. If it's xc you are looking to get into it would opt for 29 inch wheels. If it's a steel frame your looking for Cotic is the most popular brands. Also I'd be fairly sure other brands like Giant or Focus might have a good bike in your price range. I'd advise you to call into expert cycles in Rathfarnam and they will best advise you and you are better off buying local with bikes for various reasons, warranty, service, setup ... .

I'll be buying local for that very reason Chris, links were just to show the bikes. I went through most of the reputable shops in Dublin on Saturday to see the Trek, Scott, Cannondale and Giant ranges. All seem to have similar specs, generally Deore group set and the odd xt or slx rear derailer. They all had Rockshox 30 Gold TK forks, KTM and Genesis being the only 2 wearing the Reba fork.
Narrowed my choice down the KTM or Genesis, just curious to know would one be particularly better than the other. Leaning toward the Genesis as there's €200 saving and the 120mm on the forks. Going to stick with 27.5 as it seems to be a happy middle ground for speed and handling.

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for with mountain bikes too.
The two brands you mentioned are not very popular which is not to say they are bad bikes but if a brand is popular it's usually for a good reason, also if a bike is more expensive it's for a reason too. I'm sure you could ask countless people on the internet which is best but buy the one you like best.
As said before, do buy from your local bike shop though for all the obvious benefits to the local community and your level of after sales service.
