geeky tyre question

what's the difference between a normal Maxxis tyre and an Exception one?

I ordered the normals coz the Exceptions were out of stock, and 10 mins later I get a mail saying they are back in stock, the fraggin frack heads

Medusas or ignitors

At last a "geeky tyre question" thread. Hello tyre geeks.

Trying to decide between ignitors or medusas for my spesh epic. We do get a lot of mud in this country so I'm thinking the medusa will be the right tyre more often than not. Any thoughts?

Are ignitors any good in the slop?

Also, anyone used either of them "ghetto" tubeless?

BTW I hate changing tyres and refuse to do so unless absolutely necessary so whatever goes on is likely to stay there until it ruptures.

Ignitors are an all year tyre, and as such are not great and the very schomply gloop, but given that we are heading into "summer' I would get them (or Bulldogs) as for most conditions they are bang on. I have normal (non UST) Ignitors on both UST rims and ghetto and they work fine. If you get the non UST tyres they will take a couple of spins to seal up so be prepared for the sight of goo oozing out of the tyre, so put in extra goo to start off.

I hate changing tyres too, if you are the same then Ignitors or Bulldogs should get you through the whole year.

Fantastic value on Bulldogs on CRC at the moment - probably because they're being replaced!

Thanks for the advice there Don. Hadn't thought of Bulldogs. More feckin complications! Before the recession and the ghetto tubeless I would've just bought the lot!

just get ignitors..theres non stop drivel about tyres on here and everywhere else..unless you are a pro who believes the combination of tyre choice, drugs and wind direction is going to earn you a valuable few seonds all you need is a decent tyre with a decent thread and good sidewalls.
You cannot go wrong with any Maxxis tyre. I'm going to ban people from giving advice unless they ride their bikes more than 3 times a week !!

OK, here's my decision. Medusa on front, ignitor on back. Logic? Been losing the front wheel a bit lately and want the confidence of mud-shedding big knobs in front. Want something more likely to grip slippy rocks on the back. Makes sense to me anyway, and as Byrner says, I probably can't go wrong with maxxis. have a swampthing on the other bike. It's heavy but brilliant and will last me 2 years.

If you keep loosing the front wheel tie one end of a piece of string it and the other to a finger, thats what I do with my pants.

Which end of the string do I tie to my pants? :confused:
