xc race mount?

Please could some of you good people tell one who is relatively new to the glorious sport they call xc racing what bike is the best competitive all rounder for a 16yr old who is showing some promise

if its for xc racing than any lightweight hardtail,
but giant xtc is excellent machine as high spec as you can afford

Cant go wrong with an XTC and there's plenty of deals out there too. Size would be the very important so go to a propper bike shop to get him fitted by someone who knows what they're talking about.
