XT middle ring problem

is there a special tool for getting the crank bolts off a XT crank, i'm trying to replace the middle ring. the 4 or 5mm allen key dosen't seem to work.

I think they might be Torx bolts Jack, most hardwares would have a set of Torx bits

Splined or Tapered?

Should be two allen bolts for the splined or one self extracting for tapered, presume yours is splined. Loosen the bolts (2 of them) gently ease the crank arm off.

its the bolts keeping the big and middle ring toghter, and there are 4 of them. i think i will have it sorted, thanks to Ross.

Id be surprised of they're torx but I have a torx tool if you want a lend, txt me if you do, this might be of help

They'd be chainrng bolts!

They tend to turn at the back when trying to loosen them. Iv a tool to hold them if you like but a large flat-head screwdriver should do the ttrick.

the newer xts use torx keys instead of allen keys. They also have the same back as all other chainring bolts

I still think i'd have had more craic with my angle grinder !!
