Anyone have any suggestions for a good strong but lightweight wheel set? Trying to get the weight down on my bike and the wheels i have are Sunn single track rims with shimano hubs (disc), they weigh in at 12lbs, the rear wheel alone weighs 6.6lbs (3005g according to the spec sheet), that can't be good.
The bike weighs in total just over 35lbs so a couple of pounds less would be great, i also have plans to change the fork to lighten it a bit more but thats for another day.
Are the tyres made of lead?? Lighter tyres might help, but for wheels I've got Hope Pro2 hubs with DT5.1 rims on my Slayer. Light enough and plenty strong enough.

I must look at the wheelset you have suggested, what sort of price range are they?
eh what the hell are they made from, rizla papers, man thats light in comparison, unless their is some serious mistake on that spec sheet of mine, gonna have to get the old fishing scales out the shed and check this out
That sounds way too heavy, think you might have those weights wrong. Check out www.justridingalong.co.uk Bling wheelsets on there and the DH rim is supposed to be very strong.
Was also wondering about this question except it was between the Hopes + DT 5.1 or the Fulcrum Red Metal 3's that cyclesuperstore are doing for 285 yo's? Any idea which would be better, im kinda leaning towards the Hopes but the Fulcrums are lighter and have had great reviews? Any ideas??????????
Jesus at that price for the Deemax's they would want to be! CRC has them for 560 a pair, im in a whole other price range, the Hope Pro 2's on 5.1's are if CRC do a price match with Winstanleys are only 228 sterling about 260 euro and the Fulcrum Red Metal 3's are 284 euro both for a pair!

Not so sure you know what you're talking about. Deemax wheelsets are for downhill only. Fulcrum Red are XC orietnated. Not really fair to compare the two.
