XC Bike

Thinking of getting a XC bike, full suss, 100mm travel, something for taking out on longer spins, warming towards the Specialized Epic (2008 model), but open to suggestion.

Anyone know of any good deals on the above or similar??

Cycleways have a sale on at the moment.
Carbon Cannondale Rush... €2000. fox f120rlc, XT etc. slightly more travel than the epic, but nice.
Also, scalpel... didn't get the price though.
Epics are a little fragile for anything other than pure xc.

I'd agree with Mr Fecker there, I think the epic's are full on xc machines, the Cannondale's seem to be really nice.

Go for it, it's hard to get fit on an Enduro, they're fine when you're feeling good but if you're suffering they're brutal, pure energy sapping.

Also look at the Trek's, PM'd you

Brian, have a look on www.pedalon.co.uk. They have Giant Anthem X2 for 1600 pounds stg or a lovely Giant Anthem Advance 1 for 1995 pounds stg.
They are xc bikes, but knowing giants will take plenty of abuse.

Cheers Lads, will check out Cycleways and take a closer look at the Giant (looks like a nice bike for the money). The Enduro's great fun, but not ideal for long days or XC spins.

also full sus xc bikes are much harder up hills (unless rear shock has lockout), i much prefer my hardtail gt then my friends more expensive full sus

Look, if you buy a hardtail you'll end up walking down stuff, I've seen Skippy do it and even Byrner was making excuses for not doing Alans trail on a hardtail. Brian, you wouldn't be happy walking down stuff I suspect. Buy a FS that locks out when you need it, that Giant Anthem looks good alright.

When we lived in the land of eternal rain we only rode hardtails and we did Alans trail a lot and never had to walk it.

Now we're in the land of sun and i just bought a hardtail again because I missed that buzz, full sus is fun but if you can ride then you can ride on anything.

Get a hardtail Rogan, Don might know tyre pressure but not hardtails

...

also you would get a hardtail with better things on it for the same money as a full sus with worse accesories. i'd buy second hand if i was you

Yay, HT v FS debate! My Kev, you moose smoking crazy canuck, correct me if I'm wrong, but have you not been lamping around on some obscene 8" tank, I'm not surprised you are enjoying a HT after that. I served my HT time and enjoyed everything more on my FS (3.5 inches short travel Giant NRS), now THAT was an all day bike. The Anthem (or something) similar is the way to go. It's a bit from column A and something from column B, and you don't need two bikes as a result.
