BB clunking

My raceface (Evolve XC) bottom bracket has got a bit of play in it, is it safe to assume the bearings are simply shagged? Are Race Face soft? My Shimano lasted 3 years without problems?

From experience RaceFace bb's don't seem to last too long, but not to worry I have a brand new, never used XT bb in my shed! Any good to you?

John, I love your shed. Can I not simply replace the bearings? If I need a whole new BB what's that bad boy going to cost me, and is it compatible with my Race face cranks? I'm way out of my depth here!

Your not the only one, I don't understand it all either. Not sure if you can replace the bearings or not. My understanding was that RaceFace x-type bb's are the same as shimano hollowtech but I could be completely wrong!! I'm open to correction. Xt bb new is 32euro on CRC.

My raceface ISIS BB started clunking last Saturday - I blame the hideous new swampy trail that bypasses the cliffs at the top of the best descent. Bought a new BB and BB tool on Sunday. Got it Wednesday. Realised I need a crank puller to remove the crankset, got that Friday, realized that needed a spanner I didn't have, got that on Saturday morning, but had missed the spin by that stage :(

Well it's very hard to compete with CRC, them being the worlds largest mail order web site!! But seeing as it's you Don, The Shed can do it for 20quid, assuming it'll work with your crankset, can anyone confirm if it will???

But John, your overheads are so much lower than CRC, just a few spiders to take care of! Sold! Assuming it will work, can anyone 'shed' any light on this?

Ah but the spiders like a nice warm cozy shed and they have expensive taste in soft furnishings!

Here Don - are you not supposed to be somewhere hot where bottoms should be more interesting than Bottom Brackets?

Bottom ogling is scheduled for Wednesday my mattock wielding, wheelbarrow pushing, trailbuilding friend.

Shimano should work with race face x type.If not il take the bb assy off you for 20 yo yo.I have cup tools if you need to borrow.
