Ok it looks like i need one..purely for academic purposes.
I don't need one with a hr monitor or a cadence monitor or anything performance wise..i just need one to record routes and mileage and that i can download on to a map..
I haven't a clue..enlighten me..
and would somebody be able to loan me one for this weekend?
hello idiots...can you help me or not ? ..
thanks Alan..
could you honestly see me talking to rene Borg without punching him..
I wonder what you flutes will have to say when you see Alfie with a garmin..
Who needs a compass, I always thought this was rather clever...
If you have an analog wrist watch, you can use the hands on the watch to help you find north. Hold your watch up in front of you, and let the short hand which indicates hours point at the sun.
While holding the watch steady with the hour hand pointing at the sun, cut the angle between the hour hand and 12 o'clock in two. That new mid point line you created is South. The opposite direction is North.
I'm going to assume that this is a genuine question Richie? Brave I know...!
The basic bike Garmin is the one that myself and Darragh use - the 305 Edge. They are really a glorified HRM and information gatherer (distance, speed, rise and fall etc!) They can't be used to give route directions - you need a 605 or 705 for this purpose. The 305 can however be used to download route information onto Google Maps, Map My Ride etc but it does require a bit of software installation onto your computer!
You're welcome to borrow my 305 for the weekend if you want!
It is genuine Richard, i've started down a route that will eventually have me instructing Instructors on how to bring people Mountainbiking, properly. So the powers that be use these things as tools.
I might get sorted before the weekend and if I don't i'll borrow yours,
cheers and thanks Richard.
Here's a GPS data logger that'll record where you've been for â¬47. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17077
I haven't used this one but it seems to have a decent receiver.
You can get them even cheaper than this but the crap ones lose signal under tree cover.
To see where you are on the trail or follow a pre-planned route, something with a screen and mapping capability is quite a bit more, but worth it in my view. http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod4214.html
Add bike mount and shipping and it's about â¬160, less than the Edge 305, if you don't need the heart monitor.
Again, the receiver on this is a good one, the older and cheaper Garmin models don't cope with forests too well.
