Please help, total newbie

Hi all,

My names Karl and I'm new to mountain biking. I met some of you at the blast in Balinastoe a few weeks back (which was fantastic!) but I can't remember names, sorry!

Anyway, was there again today for a spin and did some damage to my bike.
I managed to break the part/bracket which holds the rear derailleur on to the frame.

By any chance, would someone know what this part is called?

The bike is a 2009 Trek 6500 disk and the attached picture shows the part (silver bracket above the rear derailleur).

I am sure I can get a replacement handy enough, if I knew what to look for !

Always easier to find something when you know the right terminology.

If you can find them cheap, buy two. as you now know, they break. this is a deliberate design flaw, to prevent damaging more costly parts/frame.

There's a company in Israel called Pilo that makes them, http://www.pilo.co.il/ - usually better quality than the "genuine" ones. Email them to check exactly which one you need for your frame. I've broken very few on my old Trek 6000, several hundred "genuine" Marin ones on my Marin Attack Trail - made of butter they are, but the Pilo one is near indestructible. betd.co.uk offer them as well, but I found the Pilo ones better. If you don't like d'internet, Cyclelogical beside the ha'penny bridge probably have the genuine Trek ones in stock. They vary from frame to frame, so important to get the right one.
