Schwalbe Nobby Nic's - great grip but unreliable

I won't be buying Nobby Nics again.. they're nice and light.. loads of grip in the muck and the schlop but that's about it.. the tyre itself is too thin and paper like.. so reliability is going to be an issue..

I got a pinch flat in the rear on the Monday spin.. I thought going tubeless meant an end to pinch flats.. obviously not..

I was running 30psi in the rear as always... coming down the last decent of the day I felt a bump as if I'd bottomed out the shock.. nothing too severe.. wasn't a hard impact by any means.. there is no ding or dent in the rim.. couple of seconds later the tyre went flat..

Checked out the tyre last night... a classic pinch flat if ever I saw one.. there is a 7mm long tear in the sidewall.. I doubt if any amount of goop could have sealed that..!

Anyways.. I'm not impressed.. will be going back to the old reliable Maxxis Ignitors.. never had any such issues with them.. great all round tyre for Irish mountain biking conditions... IN MY OPINION...!!

yes..I would have to agree with there..i couldn't believe the flimsieness of that tyre you were shouting at on Monday..it was ridiculous ..more suited to Cyclocross i would have said !

I did exactly the same thing, same rip in the same place on a Fat Albert, but my fault for running them too low pressure for the terrain (razor-edge rocks off top of Maulin), a gollop of superglue in the rip and I was off again...

The sidewalls are like paper, the threads are starting to show on the sides of mine, i can see the same thing has happened on your's Gerry, i'm just waiting for them to pop, i know it's going to happen just a matter of when. Take Llandi for example, one outting he got and tore the sidewall clean out of one. Gonna have to keep the superglue at hand i think.

Yep, same thing happened to me too, rear tyre one week and then the front the following week!!! Wouldn't go near them again, too flimsy.

I was actually shouting at the UST valve which I couldn't get out of the rim... y'big ladyboy cyclo cross dresser...!!

And I still couldn't get the fupping thing out when I got home.. even using two pliers I couldn't get it to budge.. made sh!te of the valve.. I ended up cutting it off using my Lidi Dremmel drill thingy doodaad.. great little yoke altogether..

There is a lot of advantages to going tubeless... but if the goo won't seal the hole and then the damn valve gets stuck in the rim... they're not worth p!ssing on...!!

Don's ignitor split a sidewall on monday too. I tried to ghetto my ignitors, and found a split in mine. I think all lightweight tyres will split.

The only tyres I haven't had a problem with, so far anyway, are Maxxis High Roller's and Hutchinson Toro's. Having said that the Toro's don't last pissing time..

feeling the burn of 45 minutes of tight lycra wearing aerobics..yeah, i'm hooked on that feeling !!
then getting off the bike and sliding your arm between the top tube and the down tube to hold the handlebars at just right place..and then oh my god the glorious remount..not postman style..thats for the unwashed masses..the quick hop back on the saddle and narrowly avoid squishing your nuts..then pedalling to glory after 15 laps..

Nice one Gerry, imagine if anyone else had stuck up that post with pics! Nobby Nics, how are we expected to take those seriously? Now ignitors, thats a name. Lets not rule them out just yet, I got been riding them for years at low pressures without any problems, I will continue to do so. I blame the ripped sidewall on the rock, or rubber fatigue, of the fact I was overdue a tyre problem, that yoke was old and bald.
