Heres a Question....
In my ongoing Quest to turn my old Giant box two into something usable I got a prezzie of a manitou fork from Al S. It is disc only so I took the (€50) plunge and got a 2nd hand disc and wheel. then took out the old pogo stick from the bike only to realize that the steerer on the Manitou is too short so I say no probs, with a bit of heat and some persuasion I have the steerers removed from both forks for a swap. Sadly the flange at the bottom of the original (suntour) steerer is shorter so wont hold lower bearing race. NOW I hear that yer not supposed to be able to remove the steerers and they cant be purchased seperately anyway.
Have booked into Hotel 'wit's End'. any idea's.(Can't afford that Stumpjumper)

I've replaced steerers. just a case of finding an exact replacement. not hugely adviseable though.
find a replacement fork. someone will have something knocking about. I have a pair of rockshox recons for €80. you might get something cheaper.....
or find money and change bike....

I'd give up on the dream of the Box Two it was a legend bike in its day but its day is long gone. Ur gonna end up sinking loads of money into it and ending up with something less useable than it was when it was new. Its an old dh bike so its wont pedal/climb well and if i remeber correctly they end up suffering from more sideways travell than up and down. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but save ur money. You'll just end up throwing good money after bad

Yea Al, a lot of that is true.
The strange thing is when I get off my xtc and ride the box2 it still feels good, like you can really throw it down whereas the hardtail feels pennyfarthingish by comparison. the box2 was a bit wobbly around the swingarm when I got it first but replaced bushing and cured it. The forks were absolutely ****e but somehow survived (till I pulled them to bit's !)
