Tow bar

Thinking of getting a tow bar for the car, but don't need all the electrical stuff, just a good ol fashioned bar, any idea who and where will do such a thing, and how much? Anyone I've spoken to wants hundred and insists on an electrical harness, blah, blah. I just need it for the bike, not a trailer.

I find the Witter cycle carrier excellent, can be ordered online. Needs a flange towbar (ie not swan neck). Got the last one done at Coby Autos beside Red Cow Inn. Was €400 or so, don't know if you'd get it much cheaper. Al should be able to give good advice on other towbar racks, he uses a couple of different types.
If you want I can sell you a towbar at a good price, comes with Laguna dCi attached.

Don, there is a place in Rathmines called Malcoms caravans. they are the cheapest I've come across. let me ask around if I can find anywhere else....

Don - why would you pay €400 for a towbar if you're planning on towing anything? Then you have to buy a towbar rack! You can buy a really flash Thule car specific boot/hatch rack for a lot less money!

Don dont spend loads.I got a Bosal tow bar for around €120 and fitted it myself,very handy to fit,,only about an hour or so labour..Much better off with a tow bar mounted rack,,keeps things away from the car,and if someone runs up the back of you in traffic their car comes off worse..if your interested pm me and i will get you the suppliers number

Smith Auto, Pearse rd Sallynoggin next to White and Delahunty ph.2856800 they are the cheapest around...the reason they are all including the wiring and socket is because most of the back of the car is stripped out to fit towbar it only takes a couple of minutes to do wiring so probably not much discount for not getting electric socket.

The electronic harness for the car cost a shed loads. That was cummins logged in as me earlier. I got mine fitted by the place in sandyford on the corner of heather road, for about 250 with out it wired in most other places wouldn't fit it without the wiring. A towbar rack costs 50 bills and ur laughing

Don, I got a towbar and no electrical from a place up North called Traynors 02838891242, they drop parts down South weekly and you can arrange a pickup, it cost around €80 and I got the local mechanic\metal basher to fit it for another €50
Maybe your getting it to tow a caravan or something, ye didnt say but if its a bike carrier I bought a simple 2 bike Thule towbar carrier from wiggle for €65 and its so handy, when I leave the car I throw the carrier in the boot and still have room for the bike if needs be (say leaving the car overnite, so I didnt want one of those big tray things, you can lock the bike to the carrier and as a result the carrier locks onto the towbar, so it would be difficult for someone to nick when parked or in traffic. Def the easiest way to carry a bike

Sub €120 sound the biz, the bar would only be used for the bike so no electrical garb required. Cheers lads!
