Brakes - Pads - what type

Hi All, again, probably a stupid question but, when it comes to replacing the brake pads I see that you can get;

- Manufacturers own brand
- Goodridge
- Fibrax etc. etc.

- Alloy / mixed alloy
- Organic
- sintered

So, there's lots of choice, should I stick with the Manufacturers own pads or buy whatever's cheapest? & what's the deal with all the materials? - I understand 'fade' & all that - But, what's best for our eternal rainy season?

I've got stuff off these guys and got good service. I think organic are best for our conditions but latey I've seen these dual compound ones that seem to be the business.
I go cheap and replace often with organic ones though.

organic ones have more power than sintered but wear alot quicker. I got the dual compound ones from these guys and find them very good.

Have you seen these new SOS pads, mixture of organic and sintered? Another marketing scam obviously but one for the nerdlings for sure.

Here's what I've found...

The organic pads have more stopping power but they are less resistent to heat and they wear faster, but, you'll probably never heat them up that much in Ireland.

The sintered pads have a higher heat resistence but slightly less stopping power, but, you probably won't notice the difference.

So... to sum up... it doesn't matter

I buy sintered pads becasue they last longer, we ride through caustic metal eating shi*e all day long so long life is what you're looking for.

SOS pads are amazing no marketing bull**** atall was very surprised and the few people i got to try them when they came in first have all been back to buy more and won't use anything else. There a little expensive but seem to be worth it. More power and longer life than organic pads.

The lads from the Rec 2 course use Always Ultra and dont wear them out

its going to be some craic now if anybody has even a minor accident on a spin !! We'll be practicing on anything that happens ..
hell we might even create a few accidents just to have something to rescue!!

By the way John, talk to Smithers about brake pads..he may be able to help you without raping your wallet out of it.
Organic pads are a complete waste of time in Ireland..Sintered all the way..especially for a legend like you thats out 3 days a week.
I was " Sponsored " a few pairs of Organic pads..I went through both fromt and rear sets after about 2 weeks..

cool stuff Richie, I'll get on to him straight away, in fact he's probably reading this right now & sintered it is, I checked mine - holy crap - metal on metal (Anvil?)
