WARNING to all DealExtreme light fans

ok here's the craic

If you have bought these lights, you need to take extreme care that the battery is kept as dry as possible
The battery cover that comes with them is definitely not sufficient to keep them dry
You'd need some form of sealer/silicone//rubbery glue to fill-in the gap where the power lead goes into the battery, and also to keep the lead from being pulled-off the terminals (the lead was not glued to the battery - just taped)

Mine fecked-up because they got wet, I pulled them apart to try sort it out
As you can see from the snaps below - there's a lot of corrosion where the water seeped in (this was after wiping off most of the gunk)

You could also seal some waterproof tape fully around them, but make sure to really cover them fully - especially where the lead goes in.

I've tried resoldering the corroded bits but there's a tiny capacitor missing which I think is a problem, also the chips are possibly blown too so I might just get another set because a spare battery plus postage from http://www.geomangear.com/ costs more than a full new light

Anyway - moral of this story - keep the battery totally dry or you'll probably find yourself in this mess!!

yeah you could go to all that trouble or you could throw them out and get some good lights like the hope vision 2 which are totally faultless

I thought i had bought a decent light with the Nuke Proof but even they seem to be failing left right and centre.

in all fairness..
if you pay €58 for a light and they fail...big deal..we are enduring some shoyte weather for the last 3 months..Fergal belongs to the Richie Byrne School of Mountainbiking..if you can ride with it you can dig with it !!
I have the Nuke Proofs..they acted the maggot once but that was ages ago and a little bit of shouting fixed that..

I bought a set of hopes and they're great not as bright as the Nukes but the battery is miniscule and the beam is more concentrated..
we get them ata great price, i mean geat price from Joe..
I like the Nukes..I think Don just had bad luck with them..
I've been using the Nukes 3 to 4 Nights a week for over a month..without any issues..
I wonder if the Chinese lights would take that abuse ?

The light unit it self is a good little unit, basicaly the same as a nuke proof (P7 led) but in a different shell, just the battery and charger could be it's down fall, but hey it makes a great back up light.
