What breaks for xc bike?

Have another xc related question. The breaks on me xc bike are ****e. They are some old hayes yokes I took off the almountain bike two years ago, the leavers feel awful, the adjuster scews are long worn out, I lashed a pile of tread lock into the leaver pivots a few years ago, I can't remember why, but it seamed like a good idea at the time, they where never the same since. Anyway, I'm thinking of getting new ones. The xc bike is a reasonable light carbon jobby with some decent bits on it. So if I am gettin new ones I'll get decent ones. So I was wondering what where the current breaks to have in xc land. I was thinking the XT ones, but I don't know if the XTR ones are much better. Also seen some really nice, but expensive new formula breaks. Also are those ones with the shifters integrated any good, or is that just getting to fancy altoghter?

just get the new XT ones..easy to bleed simple and effective. I'll be putting a set on my race bike. I've tried them all at this stage and honestly i think the Shimano ones are the easiest to maintain.

Are these the 'new' ones you speak of? This whole 'old' / 'new' thing is all relative.

Are the dual control yokes any use, I need shifters anyway?

I wouldn't bother with dual control, I had them for a couple of years and while there were good I was delighted when the new bike arrived with rapid fire, much cleaner shifting and no ghost shifting when banging off trees.
