Problems choosing front derailleur?

At the moment im limited to my top ring and middle ring only.

I had the bike in my LBS and i was told i needed the bb type front derailleur.

That was fine told it was on order but it still hasnt come in and that was in Jan some time.

So i went looking myself.

The bike is a Kona Kikiapu deluxe.

I got the frame 2nd hand and the mark where the original front derailleur was is on the frame and not on the bb, ive looked at a couple of pics on the net and they all seem to be on the frame aswell.

Now at the moment my front mech is alot lower down compared to where the previous owner had it.

I transfered my front crank and front mech from my old bike both are deore.

MY question is how do i go about picking out the right mech that i need?

Doesn't sound right. Any pict i can find shows a top swing/top pull mech. looks totally standard, and nothing about the frame design indicates any different.
If the mech won't go low enough, it might be the crank is too close to the frame. what crank/bottom bracket is on it? and is it the right size B/B... If the B/B is a 67mm in a 73mm frame, then the arms are too close to the frame.

Im using a 68-113mm square tappered bb.

Is there any sites you can check what bb the frame is supposed to take ot is that dependent on your crank?

I had a feeling myself that the bb was to close, but im a bit of a novice at this stuff, i just measured the length of the old frame the crank came off and it was 113 so i went with that for the Kona aswell.

Im hoping i can get it to select the bottom and middle ring for Ballyhoura on Sunday, might make the climbling a small bit easier.
