Ironhorse or canyon ?

Obviously a year ago everybody would have said the ironhorse but with them going into liquidation things have obviously changed.

Canyons Torque frx 9 with direct sales makes them very competitively priced and their geometry is extremely similar to a lot of the top brands out there but for the life of me I cant find a single review anywhere.

The sundays are well proven but also known for going through bushings. Are they also known for going through frames too? If not it hardly matters about the difficulty getting frame parts down the line. I'm not likely to be doing any of these ' rad huck to flats' anyway so less likely to snap a frame.

The obvious alternative is a decent second hand machine but they dont seem to be popping up and if they do they are snapped up pretty quick.

I have a canyon hardtail bit different I know but really nicely made reckon that yoke u looking at is stronger than a jcb

I had a look at the canyon torque Fxr 9 ltd before as also hope to change DH bike at some stage and cant see how you could fault it if you look at the spec v price @ e3,299. The rear suspension is a four bar set up so although it been around for a while is still in use on Demo 8 etc..Weight is on the money at under 38 pounds so although not super light a lot lighter than a lot of DH bikes. The only down side i can see is the very steep head angle of 66 deg which i well off the trend of slack head angles on the current crop of DH bikes 64 to 62 seems to be the preferred figure.. But saying that the frame has a 1.5 head tube so you can run a K9 reducer head set

which would solve this if it is a problem for you..
But i have not seen or had a spin on this bike so all above are just based on spec and fig on the web site so only "imho"..so would also like to hear from someone who has first hand exp on the bike..

I've heard a few people rave about their free ride bikes but i would hate to be the guinea pig at that money, value and all as it is its still a lot of money. The spec is very impressive and the steep angles might just suit me as i'm so new to dh, a bit more similar to what I know.

They do look pretty bombproof too but they are damn ugly. Dave, why dont you just get one and i'll borrow it for a few runs and then I'll let you know what I think.

Should be a few bikes for sale at the weekend Shane, the Transition bikes look sooooo sweet, you can test ride them too, TR 450 i think they are called, might even get an ex-demo one for a fair price

Gary, I was talking to the guys in moycullen today who are bringing the transitions in and yeah they are really sweet but for the same spec bike I'd be looking at 40% more money and I don't have anywhere near that kinda wedge. Keep your eyes open for me.

same problem as you Sham, just cant justify the price of a new DH bike at the moment..Not a hope of getting away to any of the races so would be wasting money i dont have.. But I am sure some one some where has posted a review of the caynon, so keep looking. On the price front i think they are throwing in the frame for free.. if you add up the cost of all top spec shock, fork, wheels, brakes etc ..The Transition is a sweet looking bike, try Dropnzone in the states much more reasonable price 3600e roughly for full bild i think the last time i looked...Think thats Siliva got her transion
