FS: Roval Control SL XC Race Wheels

Selling a new set of Roval Control SL 2009 wheels.

Front wheel has never had a tire mounted while I had a tire mounted on the rear as a spare race wheel and was rode on once (1 hour of usage). Both wheels are perfect.

1385 grams for the set and are tubeless compatible (works well with non tubeless tires - we run Schwalbe Rocket Ron/Racing Ralph standard tires).

Mel used a set for last years complete race season without an issue - they spin up really well and are a major upgrade on almost every other wheelset on the market. Hubs are easy to service and the sealed bearings are standard issue.

1385 grams..wow! Sounds nice but would they cope with the abuse of training spins and racing or would these be race only wheels?

Mel used them as (mostly) race only wheels in 2009 (same model). She trained from time to time on them but the abuse from racing is in general more than training - you just tend to ride harder.

In 2008 I used the non SL version (basically, no carbon fiber front hub and Revolution spokes rather than the bladed ones) and used them in all sort of conditions without issues. The only thing that some 2009 models had was the front bearings going early - very easy to change though and about 5-6€ each on CRC.

What I would do - I would keep one wheelset for racing (and of course the Epic Club Race) keeping them good (and actually, more importantly, the tires good) with another set for training on. After each race, check the tires for nicks etc... clean them up and them stowe them away.

They make a huge difference to a bike - you really notice it when speeding up and in fast corners.

Are they already set up as tubeless with valve etc or do you need rim strips etc..?

Nope they come ready to run tubeless - no rim strips or any messing around. Also, they run standard tires really well (only thing we run).

Basically, they are exactly the same as a Stan's (Olympic/ZTR etc...) wheel setup.
