Sram XX chainrings

Anyone know where I can get XX chainrings..??

Have done a google search but no joy..

Looking for the chainrings only... not the spider..

Does that mean that they are not the standard 64mm and 104mm. It might be hard to get a spider to fit them. Or else Im talking out my arse

Yep, unfortunately the XX rings are not compatible with any other chainset.. the BCD on the XX rings is 120/80..

4 bolt is 104/64, 5 bolt CD is 94/58 and 5 bolt ATB is 110/74

The spider is easy to get.. have my eye on one for my Hollowgram cranks on ebay at the moment.. so its just the rings I'm after..

I have a guy in Italy who makes custom chain rings in any size but he doesn't have shifting ramps / pins on the outer ring so shifting wouldn't be as smooth.. I'm also not sure about longevity or wear on custom rings either..

Did you find anywhere to buy them?

I have a big ring of 39 on mine at the moment but need something bigger (the 42 I guess) for some marathon racing I'm doing soon. And a few front derailleur too :/

I have a brand new Sram XX 42 / 28 chainring set on the way if you want to do a straight swap for your 39 / 26 (only if they are not too worn that is)... I much prefer the 39 / 26 combo..

Otherwise you can get the individual rings here..

I have been talking to these guys aswell... custom chainrings in any size, combo and colours for XX, Hollowgram, XTR etc.. etc.. prices are reasonable.. its all in Italian though.. I have one of the girls here translate for me..!

I'm fascinated by this thread, no, really I am. I'd say Ryan and Gerry are among the select few that can talk about SRAM XX without sounding like complete tools.

I actually like the 39/26 combo too. I think its perfect for XC racing and riding in general. My problem is that the marathons in Europe often have road/fireroad sections where you are bating along at 50-60kmph. I spin out the 39 at about 45-50 so need something a little bigger. Basically, I'll be putting it on for two races this year.

I've seen nino's stuff before - the Ti 10s cassettes look interesting - looks like the recon ones. A hell of a lot cheaper (and lighter) than the XX ones - guess a much shorter life span though.
But I see Shimano are starting to sell 10s XT cassettes. Grand for the spare race wheels (currently I have a SRAM road 11-28 on the spare wheels).

How are you getting on with the XX gear? I'm really liking it - shifting is amazing and you happily shift the front ring as easily as shifting on the rear.

Had you ordered from http://www.zorlonisnc.191.it before? I'm thinking I'll just pick up the rings from there. Mel will need a set too eventually so I'd rather go a bit cheaper as I'm buying twice.

I have a 44 and a 32 and a 22..but I would like to have a 44 , a 36 ( i have a 38 its too much sometime )and a 28 or 26...

I lke the idea of the 42 / 28 Mr Mac..could I get such a thing thats not made out loadsofmoneyium ?

I am not interested in smooth shifting..on the front..I think its imaginary anyway !!

I have 42/28 on my training bike and it's perfect. The 42 goes where the middle ring usually sits and you get a 28t granny ring. Means that you can ride along in 42-34 without your chain complaining so most of the time you don't leave the big ring.

I set up my XTR cranks with a 42/28 last weeks and works great - I prefer the gear ratios and as Ryan says you can use the whole rear cassette with the big ring much smoother cause the chainline is better. Exact method as in Ryan's blog except for XTR you need some 2mm wide spacers between the small ring and the crank cause the original XTR small ring is a wider non-standard width. Just use standard washers for 8mm bolts.
Shifting is fine maybe not as smooth as the original XTR rings but since you can stay in the big ring nearly all the time its not a problem - last week at the club league I never dropped out of the big ring (with a 34t cassette on the back). The steep parts of the climb in Kilaloe on Sunday were a different story though.

For those of you who've asked about chain rings..

You can get the 42 / 28 rings here.. and lots of other sizes to.. and in many different BCD's... but the ones you want are --> 4 Bolt - 104/64 bcd

Haven't had a chance to use any of it yet.. but I've heard great things about the front shifting.. its supposed to be as smooth as the rear..

I have an XX Spider for my Hollowgram cranks.. I have the XX rings... but no bolts..!! The bolts are a fine pitch thread so standard chain ring bolts won't work.. goddamit.. there's always something...!!

I'm not going full XX though... its just too expensive.. I see Shimano XT and SLX 10sp stuff is becoming more available at the mo too.. I'd like to see the lower down 10sp Sram stuff too like X7, X9 and X0 when it finally gets released..

Haven't tried Zorlonisc stuff yet but have read good stuff about them.. prices are good too and its always nice to have some custom stuff on your bike..!
