I'm absolutely sick of the sh1te formula brakes on my XC machine so I'm on the market for a nice set of Shimano XT brakes. I need levers and calipers (IS mount). I'm riding 'continental style' LH front and RH rear.
Don't want the dual control ones, don't need disks either.
That's what people say anyway, this servowave thing seeems to do the trick giving the brake a strong initial bite with nice pad clearance at the same time.
If I snap the lever etc. they are cheaper to replace etc. I just don't need the bling factor and featherweightness of XTRs.
are formulas ****e?
I love them and never had one second of hassle from them.
just love to know why u think they are useless.
after you explain then you can go buy damos xtr's.
i've wore out 2 sets of formula brakes..
they worked great, but it wasn't long till I started snapping levers, then the levers were loose..
they worked great no problems..no problems bleeding them..but they felt too small and fiddly when I gripped them..i also seemed to wear out the pads ( regardless of the make) rapidly..
maybe because I ride my bike everyday in desperate conditons..the shimano ones seem to withstand the Ireland .
I don't know..i just think the formulas are too pretty for me, maybe..they look great on an XC bike though..
i don't like the way the lever comes out of the unit sometimes..but maybe its supposed to rather than break ?
It's a little bit like my Alfa Romeo, looks good and feels great to drive but when it comes to reliabilty its a bit usless. It also depends if you get a good copy or not. My Oros are definitly a lemon.
Things I don't like about them, here you go:
- different feel of the front and rear brake, could never get the rear one to perform as well as the front
- pads wearing very quickly (even sintered)
- master cylinder failed after 2 weeks of riding
- lever pop out of the 'socket' every now and then
- stopping power with 160 disc not great, better with 180
- lightweight discs wrap easily
- tiny pad clearance resulting in brake rub in wet and when discs are not 100% true
janey mac
i must try a set of something else so,do subaru do brakes for bikes?
Cos me boxer diesel is deadly.
agree totally about the italian connection, but i have the formula R1 on my canyon
and love them.
