Anyone know where you'd get a Hammerschmidt serviced in Ireland? James in O.C. Tuning said he thinks you'd have to remove it and send it over to a place called Fishers (IIRC) in England. :eek:
Servicing is mainly opening it up, cleaning it out, greasing lots of stuff (especially the planetary cogs) with special Hammerschmidt grease, and replacing a big seal and the three planetary retaining rings before closing it. There's a pdf document on the SRAM site that covers all of this in great detail.
I was thinking of doing it myself when the time comes: bike-components.de sell the grease and the big seal, but not the three planetary retaining rings :(
It says that you need to open it up and clean/regrease after each 100 hours of use, so I'm thinking that I could realistically get away with 200 hours (i.e. about 2 years or so) assuming that the 100 hour suggestion is the manufacturer's ultra-conservative recommendation.
