i know in the past that frame painting has been discussed here but
Does anybody know of a place that will polish a mountain bike frame to make the raw aluminium look like chrome?
I hoping to find a place that will strip, polish and coat it,
i.e. do a proper job.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

i was thinking of them, but i didn't think they'd do that,
that they would just paint it?
i'll give them a shout tomorrow anyway.

Whoever you get to do it make sure they put a really good quality clear lacquer on it... or you'll be polishing fingerprints out of it for the rest of your life..!!
If you feel like doing it yourself then use really fine grit wet / dry sandpaper and water.. it works a treat but it takes a lot of effort & elbow grease..
Its pretty easy until you come to the welds and the joins... that's where paying someone to do it for you comes in handy..!!

i've polished smaller items like fork crowns and cranks in the past
and they were enough hassle!
took near forever, and i always wished i hadn't started halfway through!
which is why i don't want to be left doing the frame myself!
by the time i've finished the area i've started on will have dulled!
that and i'd prefer somebody do a proper job on the clear lacquer.
The problem is not so much the polishing, as the laquering.
Laquer needs a slightly rough surface to key to, but a polished frame is smooth... hence the laquer chips easy. looks great on a motorbike, or roadbike, but will chip like mad if you use your MTB.
I wouldn't recommend it.
Find a nice colour paint and go with that instead. the only good polished frame is a factory polished frame. try a really really light grey with a pearlescent laquer or something like that.
Good luck anyway, if u get it polished and it lasts, whoever does the job stands to make alot of money.
well to be honest i'm trying to get my old dated scratched and beat-up version of this:

powder-coating is an option, just want to try the polished finish first.
i saw a polished orange 5, looked great. the lapierre dh bike above is good. the polished team morewoods are fantastic. there has to be somewhere of getting this done?
and if i wanna put new colour on the frame, (not polish it to shine like silver)
shall i remove all the paint anyway or can i just sand it a bit to create some rougher surface the new paint could stick to?
i dont like the bit with fingerprints on the laquer... i was gonna paint my dh bike.
have the sketch done but if it is so much hassle i'm gona skip it.
i'd rather ride this bike than spend 3days sanding down everything and next 2 painting it, knowing that new paint won't stay on the frame for long.
Paying 150e (already asked tallagh powrder coating) to paint a frame worth 400 is kind of stupid. anyway i think they will just powdercoat it in 1 colour and i wanna have 3 irregular shapes each in different colour.
Talk to a company that refurbishes alloy wheels, there are a few of them around.
Ask about having the frame shot blasted and laquered. You can get laquer with a slight tint if wanted.
This however will leave a matt finish, not the polished finish you seek.

I got my frame powdercoated my Tallaght powdercoating. He did it silver, then put a clear red laquer on top. looks sweeeeet.... you can drop by and look at it in Bray if you want to see it.
Hi , I know this isn't that relevent but I'm just wondering is powder coating the most hardwearing scratch resistant paint ? I dont know of any other options for getting my bike repainted.
