What is Tubeless ready?

Still looking at the Trek EX8 and a Trance X1. The Trek has the appeal of having Bontrager 'tubeless ready' wheels, question is what exactly are they?

Are they as good as normal UST rims when set up with rim tape, etc, as my Mavic Crosslands?

Can I run ANY UST tyres (Maxxis ignitors for example) on them, or am I stuck with 'tubeless ready' tyres?

Are there any downsides to them?

they are wheels that can be quickly and easily converted to tubeless with rim strips and valves and will work as good as a normal ust rim

Cheers Al, Can they accept UST Tyres like ignitors? Or can you run whatever you like on them?
