Brake rotor rubbing off adapter?

Bit of a strange one but im wondering if anyone else has this problem?

I have avid juicy 5 brakes mounted to my bike.
I.S. mount forks so i have to use an avid adpater to mount the caliper.
Im using 203mm discs but what i find lately is the disc is actually touching the avid adapter?

Its like the adapter is too thick?
I can get a pick up to shoe the problem a bit better.

Im going to bleed the brakes push the pistons back in and go from there.

I have about 3 to 5mm on the rear brake.

are you sure the adapter isn't upside down? are you sure this is an avid adaptor? some hayes adaptors are very thick. i had the same with hayes adaptor + hope floating disc

I never thought of turning it the other way around ill try that first off.

And its def an avid adapter alright i bought them on CRC.

Are the wheel spacers correct? It sounds like the wheel could be sitting a little too much to the left. Did you change wheel bearings recently? Maybe they got swapped about.
Bleeding the brakes will make no difference, it's the bracket rubbing.
My advice..... leave it in to a good bike shop and get their opinion.

Yep, bleeding the brake won't make a difference..

Make sure the adapter is fitted the right way around & pointing the right side up..

Are you using spacer's / washer's on the adapter (in between the adapter and fork) - if yes take them off

Cone or bearing adjustment - as Stewart suggested - if bearings have been recently adjusted or changed then the position of the wheel may be off by a millimetre or two.. enough to cause the rubbing..

Unfortunately with a problem like this it could be any number of things.. If your unsure I suggest taking it to the Bikerack in Cabinteely or Sprocket Cycles in Bray - two of my favourite bike shops in the whole wide world.. the mechanics are good honest folk and are passionate MTB riders and racers..

I dont think im using any wheel spacers??
And i have'nt changed the bearing on the front hub lately.
Its just a normal qr quick release on the front.
Im going on a spin later so ill ask the bike mechanic what he reckons.

I was cycling yesterday just down to the shops and it just started making serious noise then it stopped and a few mins later it would start again??
It was the disc rubbing off the adapter.

Im going to get some breakfast in me and go investigating a bit more in a few mins anyway.

Nearly all the AVID disc brake mounts have an arrow on them, this should be pointing up.

The only other things that make noise are broken pad spacer springs and worn pads.

You say you are using an IS mount

Did you fit washers between the brake mount and the fork, this could be pushing the brake mount over.

Do you have washers between the disc and the hub, this could be pushing the disc over.

When you set the brake up can you actually get the disc to run freely through the caliper or is it already touching the the caliper mount.



Some stupid questions....

Are the screws holding your disc on tight ?

Sorry, I just repeated some of Mac's questions...

I never thought of the bloody washers for the screws that hold on the disc.

The arrow is pointing up alright and i have no washers on the side that of the adapter.
