Winter wheels worth it?

Can't get those cheap UST Crosslands out of my head, is it worth running them through winter to preserve the 819's with their nice hope hubs?

I'm not really a subscriber to the pampering school of biking though, rather ride stuff that you have till it dies then replace it, so am conflicted.

Don, good to have a spare wheelset so get the crosslands but i'd still run the 819's as your main wheels
I've had 819s on for since i got my bike 3 years ago and they're still perfect

you would be better off with a winter hack bike !!

Yeah I've been contemplating getting a set too since you put the link up, but my front rim and back hub are on their way out, so I'll need new wheels, maybe not for a few months with my sporadic cycling but I will need some new ones in the next while and getting these would be cheaper and probably better than rebuilding what I have, but if I get them they'll be sitting in my shed waiting for the other ones to break, I've read mixed reviews about them but they seem OK and they are on sale at a good price, I'm not upgrading to disc brakes anytime soon so that's pushing me to buy them too as there seems to be less and less v brake wheels around, less of a choice anyway, I know when I decide to get them they'll be sold out.....if I had a better set of wheels in good nic I wouldn't bother buying them as they wouldn't be as light or as good, I'd keep the 150 euro to fix any damage the winter had on the good set.

you need a winter hack bike ,Don..trust me..

you need a proper disc embodied regular bike..
the whole spare set of wheels nonsense..can you be arsed, really..
think about the friggin block compatibility..
some of us who actually race and ride at a high level know that the only game in town is a WInter machine..
ones made of steel with Deore or Sram " Brutal" while the race bike has Xt ( can you hear the fookin Angels sing !!) or SRAM " Clunkity CLunk"

Yeah my bike is a winter and summer hacker....some day I'll get a proper modern summer bike....with discs.
