the toras worth a service will make a fairly noticeable difference. The reba will be lighter, stiffer and have better damping. Its defo a better fork but the torro is not complete crap.
The Tora is definitely worth servicing if its only oil and seals that need replacing.. if its bushing or stanchion wear then I'd leave them..
Reba's are a much better fork for all the reasons Al pointed out.. its a more XC race oriented fork while the Tora is more of a intermediate level fork..
Regarding the swap out of the lockout mechanism (the compression damper) between the Tora and Revelation.. it will work if the compression damper is the same on each fork.. I have never worked on a Tora so I don't know myself.. it will all depend on the year / model of each fork.. I know that Recon / Reba's / Revelations can all be interchanged depending on year / model.. in fact a lot of parts from one model of fork will work in other models..
Lockout is an integral part of the compression damper cartridge so to speak.. so you will need to change the entire unit if the lockout spring has gone.. I have several compression dampers at home, both manual and lockout, that may work..
I also have two sets of Reba's for sale.. one brand new.. one not so brand new
No worries... if you like I'll take a look at the Tora's and give you my professional opinion whether or not they are worth saving.. sometimes all these things need is a good clean and some fresh oil....
heres my proffessional advice, throw those Toras in the bin and buy the secondhand Rebas off Gerry..any forks with chrome stanchions need to be flung over a wall into Dons garden !! â¬200 for a set of Rebas ( the best not just XC forks you can get..)
my poor Rebas have taken awful beatings over the last 3 years, in all weather, all trails, Boneshaker, Maulin, Djouce, off Cattys blah blah and they still came back laughing, a tried and trusted fork for the stuff we ride on, get them!
