Come on now Don... do you really expect me to seriously contribute to this..??
When was the last time you saw me in lycra..?? I don't wear bib shorts or the likes any more.. baggies all the way.. for XC racing and everything else in between.. don't see the point of skin tight lycra for MTB riding other than its comfortable.. and I really don't care what anyone else thinks on the matter..
As for your bib shorts... The straps will be tight while your standing there in front of the mirror flexing your pecks and grabbing your crotch... but when your in the cycling position (arched back) the straps won't be so tight.. and I would imagine that the more you wear them the more comfortable they will be.. they just need to be broken in a bit..
Hahahaa! Good man Gerry, so that was you peering in my bedroom window last night, did you like my moonwalk?
Anyway, the plan to return them has failed dismally, an Actimal exploded in my backpack and the shorts now look like something seriously dodgy was going on!
neither can I ..
I wear lycra skin tight because I can..if I don't wear bibs the feckin things fall down on me..for some reason unknown to me I find that the liners that come with the Baggies chafe me something awful..
My preferred method of dress is baggies over lycra..I'll give Gerry his due, for a part time fair weather cyclist he is a very classy dresser, if you ignore his poor taste in helmets hes up there with Damo as one of the more dapper of our Mountainbikers !!
All hes short of his a thin layer of PowerFat ( copywrited term!!) and a nice Giro like Lynchies and he'd get the title of Irelands Best Dressed MTBer.
Don't get me wrong here... I'm not trying to be sarcastic or cynical.. I just think there is a time and place for lycra and its on a road bike.. can't see the benefits of it on an MTB.. just like the whole malarky of ceramic bearings for MTB use... I don't see the point or the benefits (especially over the cost)... for the road - YES, for offroad use - NO..
The only advantage I can see for lycra over baggies is when it gets wet.. lycra is generally 'more' comfortable when its wet.. but in saying that I use waterproof baggies on wet days (I'm not a complete fair weather cyclist..!) and love them.. will never go back to lycra after using them...
I hate when the baggies get wet they just seem to hold way more water and piss me off.
but then never realized that there was waterproof ones!?!.
rosscos shoes kind of match his legs "shiny".
where is mickkky? we need him to be reading this, he has brought the dress code down to an intolerable low!
I reckon he got most of his kit off the back seat of a taxi or something!!
Jaysus.. Shiney overhoes...!! There's no helping Rosco is there.? But he's 'special' like that.. only he could get away with it.. or rather he's the only one we'd let get away with it..!
I'm one of those people who swore "you'll never get me in lycra" but it really is far more comfortable for XC riding! I find my bibs really comfortable but I've probably shrunk into them over the last while! I also prefer the longer legs (3/4 length/bib knicker) .... as Byrner said to me at one XC race "there are some people whose legs are just not made for short lycra"!! I find ordainary lycra shorts hopeless - they're always catching on the nose of the saddle!
