Stiff Shifter Action!

Sounds durty doesn't it!
One for the gurus, I've changed the outer and inner cable of my rear shifter about 3 times in the last six months and each time after about 3-4 weeks the shifter action on up shifts becomes increasingly stiffer.
Do I just need to keep changing the cables regularly or should I change to full length outers or is it time the bog standard Deore shifters saw the bin!

mine are 3 years old and still working fine xt though,
so you should be getting more than that out of them,
oil the cables and next time you are changing there is a little oil nipple that you can put half way along for injecting oil in and keeping them good.
if when you change the cables it fixes it, then obviously that is the problem.
there are also small seals you can put at the junctions to keep the mud and crap out too.

Well it can get a little embarrassing when you give her sisters the odd friendly peck!

Thanks for all the advice lads, so all I need now are a set of SRAM shifters with full outers and oilers!

If your going to change to sram shifters I believe you'll have to change the dérailleur aswell, in case you didn't know.

sometimes it might not be the shifter it could be the derailleur, the dereailleur could just be clogged with mud and seized.

you will because them derailuers are pieces of s***e

And use the outer to do a complete run from shifter to rear mech. Then just cable tie to the frame. Smooth shifting all winter!

XT shifters are the only game in town, coupled with an XT Cable inner and outer set..
never a problem for me ...and i think I know better than anybody how long stuff lasts for !
SRAM gear breaks if you look crooked at it !!
XT everything except Hubs..they're a load of cack coated muck !!

if you are any kind of engineer you would know that outer casing can only withstand 4 terranewtons..the cable stops are there to remove friction..the amount of friction generated by a full outer casing could power the remote control for my TV..
