Ding in rim

I have a ding in my rim, on one side only. The tubeless setup (Stans) seems to be holding, no loss of air, but given that it is now a weakpoint I suppose it is more likely to fail there mid spin. Is it worth trying to remove the ding and if so how? Or should I not be pounding my rim with anything?

Just leave it alone Don... its not a weak spot & it won't fail mid spin.. unless it is cracked.. then it might.. but if its just a dent then forget about it..

I have several dings on one of my rear wheels and it is still going strong 4 years on.. I have 100% confidence in it & I know it won't fail on a spin.. or fail dramatically..

Don't worry about it..

The only time rim dents affect you is when your running rim brakes... when you pull the brakes the bike judders each time the ding passes through the brake pads.. its very very annoying and sometimes a bit sketchy if the dent is on the front rim.. it can send you flying in the right conditions..

With disc brakes you never have to worry about such things ever happening..

If you do try straighten it you may end up doing more damage than good.. trust me I've learnt from experience..

I figured, it being you, that it wasn't an oversight, couldn't resist though.

Well I ignored Gerrys advice and attacked my rim with a blowtorch, then set about pounding it with a rubber mallet, when that didn't work I stuck it in a vice and burst the whole rim open, lesson learnt.

haha deadly a bowtorch to weaken it and then a vice to finish it off you made my day if you want to break anything else give me a shout i like wrecking stuff
