Pedal - Help

Is anybody using Speedplay Frog pedals. I've been told the amount of float on these pedals will help reduce my knee pain???
Have you done all the normal stuff, right seat height, right seat position, right gear to cycle in (easier), alternative cleat position on the shoes, sometimes just not cycling for a week or two can help, try conventional solutions first then look at the pedals.
Have to agree there with Hairoil, Cleat positioning is very Important and could cause long term damage if not right!
Tks, i have tried to get the seat height and position correct over my last few spins. The pedals i currently have are Shimano M540's and i did have the cleats in the wrong position (too straight). I have set up the cleats to allow my feet to point out more, but the knee pain was there this weekend. I have been told the Speedplay have more float and are not centred, which should allow my foot to move more and take away the sidewards motion in my knee. All i want is to get out on the bike more without any pain
To find your natural foot position... sit up on a high table right up to the bend of your knee... you need to relax totally & let your lower legs dangle freely and loosely over the edge (your feet should not be touching the ground).. now look down at your feet... they will be sitting in their natural position... you need to replicate this position as closely as possible on your cleats / shoes / pedals..

As the lads said, cleat position is critical... spend as long as it takes setting them up until its right... even if it takes hours... your knees will thank you for it..

Speedplay Frog pedals do offer a lot more float than SPD's... I've never used them though so I can't tell you how they perform... I know the cleats are huge compared to SPD's and the likes..

Mixed reviews here about them..

Egg Beater pedals also offer a lot more float than SPD's and are probably a cheaper option than the Frog's.. I've used them in the past and really like them.. again they get very mixed reviews..

Time ATAC pedals are excellent too and again offer more float than SPD's..

Not sure how severe your pain is but it takes a week or two for the imflamation to subside. Don't go cycling with the knee pain, it should be completely pain free before you start any serious cycling.
Once the pain is gone do some gentle rides around the estate etc and only progress to harder training if the knee is ok.

If you have a turbotrainer check the cleat positioning on it but if you dont have one here is the tip:

take the chain off and just spin the crank, make sure that your foot floats on the pedals nicely and is not 'fighting' the spring tension.

I missed weeks of cycling and an important race last season due to incorrect cleat positioning so I know something about this.
Shut up Skyhook , you're only a babby at this !
Max, you are a weakling..I've been cycling with sore knees, skull, micky, toes and most of my fingers don't work for as long I can remember, plus I experience flashbacks, speaking in tongues and Tourettes.
Plus i've a huge pain in my hole from goobers !!
I know from looking at his tears when it happened that Mr Mac is an expert on knee problems..
so the rest of you shut up and go back to stabbing yourselves in the head with your computer mice !!

thanks , I do me best, was that your new girlfriend I saw you with up in Cloon on Sunday ?
nah i wish i could find a girl that was into mtb very few girls do any kind of sport bar changing the channel between their soaps.also have lost two of them due to wanting to do biking more than spend time with them
the only thing to do with knee pain is go and seek proffesional help by way of a sports physiotherapist it is highly likely that your knee pain is nothing to do with your bike set up (but how the f*!k could we tell from here!)
go and see a sports physio
