Frame Repairs

Anyone know if there's a place that does Aluminium repairs around Dublin?

B@C fabrications on balymount road dublin 12 does alu welding dont have number for them not sure if they have welded bikes but its worth a try

Its a Specialized FSR chainstay so I mite ring Specialized and see if I can buy a replacement..

There is a company in Maynooth which has repaired a frame for a guy in MAD. Though I think it was to fix a cracked weld rather than a dent. Will try and find out details.

put masking tape on it and pretend you never saw it and it will be grand !!

I would replace the chainstay, alu doesn't 'bend back' well. It will just break. 'Repairing' it will prob make it worse.

I agree,just ride the fecking bike!!

maybe try using a sink plunger to suck the dent back out

Collins Engineering / Alloy Wheel Repair have a tig welding plant, they repaired an AMP B2frame for me me a "few" years back, the job was not pretty but better than a crack. They're located in Solus Industrial Estate in Bray.
I'd seek a replacement first.

Replace or cover it with handlebar tape , its hardly going to snap where it is. Trying to repair it is a waste of time.

if the repairers cut the tube the strength is gone and it will break at the repair junction quicker than the original dent
alu is bloody strong - i bet you'll never have an issue with it dispite the dent

Graham.. if its just a dent then forget about it... if it ain't broke don't fix it..!

Aluminium doesn't like to be bent... bend it once and you might be okay... bend it back and you can almost guarantee it will break at some stage..

One thing I noticed from looking at your picture is that the bent stay may be putting stress on other parts of the frame / rear end as it is now out of alignment with everything else...

A replacement stay should cost you the guts of €100.. a repair job will probably cost you the same amount so replacement really is the only way to go..

Expanding foam into the seat tube, and lots of it.

Now Don, even I know that the chain stay and the seat tube are not directly connected on a full-suss bike!

Your right Gerry, I am waiting on a call back from Cycleways to see if they can source me a replacement chainstay from Specialzed..
