Front derailleur/ chainset position

Do all front derailleurs have the same level of travel?
Building up bike and my LX F.derailleur doesnt physically go high enough
to get chain to top ring

However -I also fitted a 68/73 bottom bracket with 2 spacer to the chainset side
Is this pushing the chainset too far out - hence f.derailleur not reaching?

anyone got any advice?

too many spacers !! or maybe you're downtube has swollen !

Fergal has a dremel if you need to grind down the frame a bit.

Have you set up limit screws correctly?

Rob, 2 x spacers always go on the drive side if its a 68mm shell and your not running a chainguide or e-type mech...

Check the HIGH limit screw is all the way out on the f-mech and try again..

Make sure cable tension isn't too slack either.. a bit of slack is normal though..

ill check limiter screws again, tightness of chainset on axel also - might not be pushed on tight enough
I'll leave the two spacers as is however - as removing them will bring my foot too close to the chainstays - which was how the previous bike was set up by someone called james....

thats way too many spacers !! why do you need all those spacers.. they'll only interfere with the q factor !

does everyone have 2 spacers at drive side?!

2 spacers here baby, 1 would be madness, 3 would inhibit your BB threads from engaging.

you must have a 73mm wide BB so 2 is right
I've a 68BB so 3 for me according to Mac's chart ...

Its not my chart... I robbed it from these clowns... whoever they are...!?!

Always try the Park Tool website for tech info before attempting to ask the 'experts' on interweb forums..

If I used 3 spacers I couldn't attach the non drve side crank arm so I just used 1 spacer on the non drive side and none on the drive side works fine. I don't know what size my bb is though.
