Rockshox sid advice

hi all

i currently own a 2008 yeti asr with a new rockshox reba rl fork with poplock. A friend has offered to sell me his freshly serviced 2009 sid that has the poplock feature but the handel bar mechimism is broke for 300 euro. i expect that the bike will spend about 90% of its time in ballyhoura so was wondering what to do. should i go with the sid or stay as i am?

thanks
Some friend! €300 sounds like a lot for a 2009 Sid, you can buy them new for abit over €400 in places depending on the model!
Agreed - what are you really gaining for spending another €300?
10% improvement on the fork perhaps?
don't do it - reba's are more than good enough forks
Sid would actually be a step backward. It's a race fork, and fragile compared to the reba. I have an ASR, and I run a 120mm fox. the extra length might make more sense if you are looking to change fork.
thanks for all the quick replys.

to be fair to my friend it was just a figure off the top of his head. He got it serviced down in kinsale at a cost of 90 and has being in the box since. I had read up reviews and looks like all the above posts are correct

on a side note how much is the sid fork worth if he is going to sell it on.?

thanks again for all the help
Stick with the Reba... the difference between it and the Sid is minimal to say the least...

And, to the best of my knowledge, most Reba's from 2006 onwards can be converted to 120mm by removing the internal spacer... which will match your rear end nicely..!
hi mac

can you expand a bit on the internal spacer issue. What difference will the extra 20mm make to the ride. sorry if the question seams stupid but i'm a converted road biker and still new to having a suspension underneath me
It will slacken the head angle be almost a degree, giving more ability/confidence when decending. Also, you can run a little more sag, making for plusher suspension.
What Fat Fecker said..

The spacer itself is just a simple internal plastic spacer that can be removed / installed to increase / decrease your front end travel to 120mm... if your rear end travel is 120mm then it is always a good idea to try at least match your front and rear travel so you have a nicely balanced machine..

It will make a subtle but noticeable change to how the bike feels & handles...
i downloaded the reba service manual and had a quick read through it.

Has anybody ever removed the spacer and is it a big job? Will i need to get new shock oil or can i just use the same oil as it is only a new fork?

thanks for all the help
Its not a big job... you will need an internal snap rings pliers to remove the spring assembly from the leg..

Best to use fresh new oil as the stuff that will dribble out the bottom will probably be dirty.. its only 5cc each side but is essential to provide an oil bath for your stanchions to swim about in..!
it sais on the manual to use 15w fork oil. i rang the local bike shop and they have "normal fork oil". will this do. i saw that you can get the sram oil on ebay for around 35 euro for a 1 litre but sounds a bit of an overkill for 10cc
Normal fork oil..?? Not sure what that is or could be.. there are many different types of oils so when someone says 'normal fork' oil to me it means they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.. I've had that experience before with certain bike shops and sales people..

This is what I use when I service forks...
