A mixture of Sorrento ,Epic,Nomad,BrayW vets and some two younger members of the fairer sex had a great two days riding at Ballyhoura last w end.Thanks to Conal Higgins for arranging trip and booking houses.Riding conditions very tough because of Heavy rain wind sleet etc.We met Fiona Barrett towards end of spin and she finished off on red route to get vback to her car at Donerail entrance.20 mins later Beth got a call from Fiona saying she had a crash and broken her leg.There was no point in any of us backtracking to find her as darkness would catch us out and we were weak and cold at this stage especially Beth who was in the horrors(fatten up lass).The faster riders tore on back to trail centre to alert guy at centre.John o Reilly and himself drove around to find her before the poor girl got hypotermia.This situation shows the need for mobiles and a local contact no when taking on a big loop in winter conditions.We were later informed Fionas husband got her to hospital by car and she will be off the bike till new year.Well done to all that helped.We were all frozen and on our last legs when we docked at holiday cottages.Sat nite we celebrated our survival with great grub and excessive quantitied of happy licquid.A shorter spin on Sun was called for to clear heads.Great trip hope Fiona has smooth recovery,shame about crash as she was flying on bike up and down.Need a rest and detox after that trip.

Heard about Fiona, sounded grim. I am glad she is doing well now. Solo rides, long trails, winter, not a good combination.
From what I've heard, it wasn't from much of a crash either, just going over funny on the leg.
Definately brings it home that on solo rides you have to have a mobile - especially as those trails aren't especially difficult (but still a lot of fun).

Jonathan Cruise was found unconscious up in Glen o Downs many years ago after hitting a tree, dont think he was wearing a helmet though.

Thanks for the get well soon messages. My leg was broken in three places and my ankle dislocated from what was a very inocuous fall (more of a foot fault really) on an easy section of trail.
I've learned my lesson that any trail is dangerous when you're on your own so I'll be finding myself some friends for future trips! Thanks to everybody who helped in getting me off the trail and I look forward to seeing you on the bike when I escape from my couch in the new year.
