I just had a call from (a very excited) Richie on his way back from Bellurgan! No doubt he'll be on later with a more detailed report but it seems that Epic had a fantastic day! From what I understand Ger Jackson won the 12 Hour Solo, Oscar won the 6 Hour Solo and Carol and Richie won the 6 Hour Mixed Team! Damien finished 3rd in the 6 Hour Solo! Congratulations to everybody and apologies if I've left anybody out!

The course was deadly, more singletrack added to the NPS. It totally battered the crap out of me, a full sus would have been nice. fair play to anyone doing 12 hours of that. The weather stayed nice too, a couple of small showers and a fair bit of sun.

Just talking to Jackson, he's that fecked after his win he had to leave the drinking session early, there's a first for everything!! Well done the epic crew.
yeah baby yeah !! oh the racehead was released after 10 years in exile !!
Monster showers on the way up had us worried but we ( the 6 hour people) who started lap 1 did it in the sunshine !!
Me, Oz , Max and Damo were together for most of lap 1 until a shower of shortcutting loolahs cluttered up the singletrack !! Tape went down somewhere and as SteT told " that was a 10 minute shortcut , Rich"
so I finished ,my first lap and off went Carol but Oz was miles ahead, Max and Damo kept ging after me and Jackson was already delirious at that stage, Dave Shoulders was going along with Ste T and Orla somewhere out in the woods..meanwhile the Ennis boys were looking for a blood transfusion !!

Well done to all the EPIC crew, great results all round. That was really feic'n hard, every part of my body ached for the last two hours. Six hours of non-stop technical singletrack really takes its toll both physically and mentally. How those lads do twelve hours solo is beyond me. Course was fantastic with some lovely additions to the previous NPS.
Erica and Sophie were lifesavers in the feedzone, bottles and gels were ready for every lap. Really professional set up in the EPIC tent with everything a racer could need, class all round.

That was one tough day but well worth it, the track was so good. 11km of tough technical single track, was not what I was expecting.. EPIC cleaned up in the main events.. nutter of the day has to go to Jackson 15 laps in 12 hours unbelievable. A big thanks to the girls for doing suport in the pits & thank to Richie for all the bars and gels that kept us all going. Myself Steve T and Christan all got 6 laps in with OS damn and max getting seven in. So well done to everyone another great day for epic ..

The Event:
Well organised and run, no hickups. Fair play to Tony and lads for making it bigger than last year, it really has the potential to be the best mtb / endurance event in Ireland. What I'd like to see next year is more encouragement / commentary during the race, it was very quiet most of the time.. some more buzz would've been great. The bonfire and BBQ were really good too!
The Race:
I wanted to do the 12h pair but there were no takers so I decided to do 6h solo. I'm not a great endurance rider but I hoped 6h would not be too long to wear me out completely. Well, I was right and wrong at the same time. The legs were fine, I kept eating loads so I didn't hit the wall... but my back gave up on my after 4 laps. I need to work on my core strength over the winter. So after 5 laps I stopped at the pits and didn't feel like going out again, I stopped enjoying riding the course once I got slow and sloppy and being there on my own doing the same lap over and over again didn't help either. But... after about 1h rest Dave and Steve arrived to the pits and I went again with them. Did another 2 laps and I really loved it!
Next year, I will definitely do 12h pair.. for XC racer types like me it's just so much more fun to go out for 1-2laps and race it rather than pound away slowly for 6h or 12h.

Fantastic, loved every bit of it! My favorite bits were: the first super-fast descent, the first switch back climb and the barley field. Great work lads!
The Bike:
Worked perfect, no mechanical problems at all. If only it had rear suspension though!! That was definitely a course for a light full sus, especially for the solo races. Getting your arse and back kicked to death was no fun.

Definitely not the race to come out of retirement for, I was so happy when my left pedal finally disintegrated on the fourth lap. Well done to all on the podium and thanks for the facilities.
i must admit i am a little bit bollixed after yesterdays spin. a huge thanks to everyone who took part or were involved but especially , cuchullain for organising the event and food both nights and a great course (none of that XCO bollix), a massive thanks to alfie wallis at expert cycles for providing the gazebo , richie felle &co for doing bottles,eurocycles for providing gels and bars , rudolf for providing cold beer afterwards , all the epic and mad crowd for egging me on every time i came through the pits ,thats was a huge help,niall clark oils for the free tank of diesel , an unusual prize but very practical . big thanks to richie byrne because two weeks ago he told me i wasnt going to be winning anything this season and the prospect of rubbing his nose in it spurred me on , also his savage spins over the years definetely helped. for anyone wondering why i started a lap at 11.55 it was because my cosest competitor had briefly caught me early in the previous lap and i didnt know if he was more than 5 minutes behind so i had to go again.
You're a legend Jackson, it's hard to appreciate such an effort if you haven't done it yourself. I only did a half of what you had to go through so I can only image how hard that was. Respect!

Huge thanks to Erica and Sophie for their bottles and pit management, however its a disgrace that an 11 year old and a WAG have to do this..
Hold on I forgot about Paul Keogh !! I think a 6 hour painfest was a bad trip out of retirement..
And as for Aine and Conor Conneffe..we'd be fecked without their help !!

Well done to all the EPIC crew, great results all round. That was really feic'n hard, every part of my body ached for the last two hours. Six hours of non-stop technical singletrack really takes its toll both physically and mentally. How those lads do twelve hours solo is beyond me. Course was fantastic with some lovely additions to the previous NPS.
Erica and Sophie were lifesavers in the feedzone, bottles and gels were ready for every lap. Really professional set up in the EPIC tent with everything a racer could need, class all round.

I'm still laughing thinking about Jackson..the race was well over and there he was still cycling around ..

That was one tough day but well worth it, the track was so good. 11km of tough technical single track, was not what I was expecting.. EPIC cleaned up in the main events.. nutter of the day has to go to Jackson 15 laps in 12 hours unbelievable. A big thanks to the girls for doing suport in the pits & thank to Richie for all the bars and gels that kept us all going. Myself Steve T and Christan all got 6 laps in with OS damn and max getting seven in. So well done to everyone another great day for epic ..

Ok, here is a quick report from me:
The Event:
Well organised and run, no hickups. Fair play to Tony and lads for making it bigger than last year, it really has the potential to be the best mtb / endurance event in Ireland. What I'd like to see next year is more encouragement / commentary during the race, it was very quiet most of the time.. some more buzz would've been great. The bonfire and BBQ were really good too!
The Race:
I wanted to do the 12h pair but there were no takers so I decided to do 6h solo. I'm not a great endurance rider but I hoped 6h would not be too long to wear me out completely. Well, I was right and wrong at the same time. The legs were fine, I kept eating loads so I didn't hit the wall... but my back gave up on my after 4 laps. I need to work on my core strength over the winter. So after 5 laps I stopped at the pits and didn't feel like going out again, I stopped enjoying riding the course once I got slow and sloppy and being there on my own doing the same lap over and over again didn't help either. But... after about 1h rest Dave and Steve arrived to the pits and I went again with them. Did another 2 laps and I really loved it!
Next year, I will definitely do 12h pair.. for XC racer types like me it's just so much more fun to go out for 1-2laps and race it rather than pound away slowly for 6h or 12h.
The Course:
Fantastic, loved every bit of it! My favorite bits were: the first super-fast descent, the first switch back climb and the barley field. Great work lads!
The Bike:
Worked perfect, no mechanical problems at all. If only it had rear suspension though!! That was definitely a course for a light full sus, especially for the solo races. Getting your arse and back kicked to death was no fun.

Definitely not the race to come out of retirement for, I was so happy when my left pedal finally disintegrated on the fourth lap. Well done to all on the podium and thanks for the facilities.
i must admit i am a little bit bollixed after yesterdays spin. a huge thanks to everyone who took part or were involved but especially , cuchullain for organising the event and food both nights and a great course (none of that XCO bollix), a massive thanks to alfie wallis at expert cycles for providing the gazebo , richie felle &co for doing bottles,eurocycles for providing gels and bars , rudolf for providing cold beer afterwards , all the epic and mad crowd for egging me on every time i came through the pits ,thats was a huge help,niall clark oils for the free tank of diesel , an unusual prize but very practical . big thanks to richie byrne because two weeks ago he told me i wasnt going to be winning anything this season and the prospect of rubbing his nose in it spurred me on , also his savage spins over the years definetely helped. for anyone wondering why i started a lap at 11.55 it was because my cosest competitor had briefly caught me early in the previous lap and i didnt know if he was more than 5 minutes behind so i had to go again.
You're a legend Jackson, it's hard to appreciate such an effort if you haven't done it yourself. I only did a half of what you had to go through so I can only image how hard that was. Respect!

I just had a call from (a very excited) Richie on his way back from Bellurgan! No doubt he'll be on later with a more detailed report but it seems that Epic had a fantastic day! From what I understand Ger Jackson won the 12 Hour Solo, Oscar won the 6 Hour Solo and Carol and Richie won the 6 Hour Mixed Team! Damien finished 3rd in the 6 Hour Solo! Congratulations to everybody and apologies if I've left anybody out!

The course was deadly, more singletrack added to the NPS. It totally battered the crap out of me, a full sus would have been nice. fair play to anyone doing 12 hours of that. The weather stayed nice too, a couple of small showers and a fair bit of sun.

Just talking to Jackson, he's that fecked after his win he had to leave the drinking session early, there's a first for everything!! Well done the epic crew.

Monster showers on the way up had us worried but we ( the 6 hour people) who started lap 1 did it in the sunshine !!
Me, Oz , Max and Damo were together for most of lap 1 until a shower of shortcutting loolahs cluttered up the singletrack !! Tape went down somewhere and as SteT told " that was a 10 minute shortcut , Rich"
so I finished ,my first lap and off went Carol but Oz was miles ahead, Max and Damo kept ging after me and Jackson was already delirious at that stage, Dave Shoulders was going along with Ste T and Orla somewhere out in the woods..meanwhile the Ennis boys were looking for a blood transfusion !!
Anyway to cut a long story short we had a great day, Oscar was magnificent, Carol was brilliant , Damo crashed, Shoulders had a cramp attack while crashing !!
The course was amazing..however the trail through the Barley fields was outstanding..

Actually great craic allround..I dont think the Red Cross lady appreciated me saying she needed Gok Wans help but everybody else thought it was hilarious , plus you missed my running commentary on the goings on in the massage tent.
