It's stupid because you pay your dues in adventure sports. Your progression in adventure sports is like a funnel effect.
You start at the wide point where risk, knowedge and ability are equaly thin.
As you progress risk, knowledge and ability increase generally around the same pace.
Its a balance that keeps egits from getting out of their depth. When the balance is broken ie too much knowledge, too much risk and not enough ability (it can be any combination) people get hurt or killed.
When this happens a lot people who don't understand adventure sports try to leglislat the adventure out of it. Nobody wins.
It goes for all adventure sports.
Pointing the way to difficult trails to all on the interweb regardless of background in the sport is just asking for trouble.
Ballingoober should be on there not Cloon. Any one good enough for Cloon will find it.
I have a background in kayaking, windsurfing, surfing and climbing and its the same goes for them all IMO

lads its either a mountain bike community that we are in or its not,,,"cloon is a place for people who are (good enough)",,its everyones,,,every where is,,,,i agree leadmines shouldnt be up there,because of the sensitive area and what have you,,but i can now find three jump spots and two dh spots one of them a bike park,, within a half hour from where im visitng in two weeks in england,,,

Bike parks and legal or comercial trails are cool for it. It's accepted by the heads who set these up that people may crash and injure themselves.
My point on Cloon is that its not exactly a legal trail or an easy one. Aditionally the leadmines and the issues there.
I agree on the comunity thing but where i'm comming from is not a position of lets keep it to ourselves but lets keep it availble for the majority that use it.

Not too long ago my group came accross an idiot getting on a grade 4 river on his own. No helmet, no bouyancy aid, no clue..
He had bought himself a Lidl kayak searched the interweb for somewhere local to boat and came accross an article describing this deadly river to run.
There was no purswading this drongo of his folly.
Only after we fished the thick out of the river 3 times did he finally listen to sence. thankfully before we got to anything dificult.
As with almost all spots in ireland that river was on private land and a reasonable relationship had been maintained with the owners by the comunity of local kayakers. An incident or death would completly change that arrangment.
It was always available to the whole community as a simple question on any of the forums usually got you the answeres you needed to find and run it especially if you where known as part of that comunity.
I'm only mountain biking a year and i've been shown or told where all these trails are by better than me and been lucky enough to meet some fine people in the community along the way.
You would have probably found those places through your peers in England on one of their forums and possibly got a guided tour to boot without that website.

Cloon is not a good example firstly it’s not exactly a secret when I moved over hear last year it took me about a minute to find all the info about in on the net, the winter league race is being held their should that be kept quite so any one who’s not good enough won’t turn up. The trails their aren’t exactly extreme a small hill with a few roots and small jumps not grade 4 rapids. Leadmines may be a more sensitive area but it doesn’t take to much effort to find where it is on the net, walk up the fireroad and see a kicker by the side of it.
dont make mountain biking exclusive to people who are (good enough),,get it out there,the more people into it and out there on the trails,the more the sport is going to progress.and the better it will be for everyone in the long run.
