One of my jumps on 3rock was ploughed through and left scattered across the trail.
If people can't ride the features on a trail can they please use chicken runs instead of ruining the trail for everyone else.
If you do damage a trail and you can't fix it safely please at least leave the trail clear for other users.
Not sure it was another mtb'er damaging your trail, it was more than likely that local weido farmers son who lives just before ticknock carpark, for years he has made a hobby of vandalising our trails up there. We caught him in the act one day, and he ran off ranting about moto xers, i would keep my distance. He is not the full shilling.
I'm well aware of the rock dropper, I don't think anybody wrecked it on purpose, this was a case of someone trying to roll the jump then pulling the back brake and dragging the logs out of the jump with the back wheel. Sure the big one after it wasn't touched.
I'd have to agree..sorry Dave, but your jumps should be able to stand up to that sort of abuse..as a Veteran builder of many XC and DH races plus The Blast..I learned a long time ago to make allowances for everybody riding my trails. Dont be offended but unless you are very, very experienced at racing over jumps, you cannot build them properly.
We in EPIC have built up a lot of experience from years of racing and building and thats what you need to be doing, take this as constructive criticism though.
You may be doing a lot of digging but some of the jumps that have been appearing lately on 3 rock and other places are not well placed and not well built.
Jumps are extremely difficult to build..the only way to learn to build them right is to race DH.
Richie
Well I built the whole trail on my own except a berm two of the lads built last week.
There was a chicken run around the jump,it was jumped countless times by countless people with no ill effect and the thing that annoys me the most is that who ever wrecked it didn't even bother there hole to stop and kick it out of the way.
I know I don't have the experience that you have Richie but I can ride everything I build. If something doesn't work I go back and rebuild it/move it or what ever has to be done again and again and again until I get it right.
dig a nice deep wheel shaped hole behind the jump dave. That'll stop ejits trying to roll it and dragging out the lip with their big rings. They'll go around it then.
Sorry lads jumps are for jumping trying to roll them and tearing off the lips is just pathetic.
I'm not getting all hard core here and **** but tearing lips off other peoples jumps is just bad form full stop. It exactly the same as ejits cutting corners or changing your track on the leadmines.
I agree with you Bren but the sad fact is that its going to happen. So you have to build them rollable or end up like Dave ,constantly repairing them.
If they are collapsing under braking on them then they are unsafe.
I learned a few things in the past few weeks about jumps and berms
Always double or triple the amount of effort/time/material you think it will take to build them, regardless of how it looks after you collapse with exhaustion
What looks fine initially always needs more work - much to your disgust but that's the way it is
I spent 4 hours building a berm on Romper in Sat, after the first 2 hours I was 100% sure it was fine, but the soil I was digging out was this perfect sandy/cementy composition and it seemed a shame to leave it unearthed so I just kept mattocking and shovelling until I ran out of time
Rode it today and it was spot-on, if I had only spent the 2 hours on it then it just wouldn't have worked
yeah but why would you brake on a jump ? Skidding up the face of jumps damages them too. Who needs a ruts on the face of a jump ? It's inconsiderate and and usually only done by lazy ****es who have never built a jump or beginners.
Pull up before it or around it and have a look, if you fancy it go for it, if you don't leave it for another day and someone else. That's not very hard to do.
Anyone braking within ten feet of the take off is doing it wrong, you unbalance the bike by incorrectly loading the suspension and put your weight in the wrong place. Jumps should be hit brakeless and neutral. Any loading of suspension is via your feet only.
I know you know this Richie but I'm stating this for folk who may not.
Telling Dave he has to make his jumps rollable is like telling you to put no roots on your track.
He wants a clean lip to hit just as much as you want a challenging track.
Unfortunately for Dave he's built it in Goober central. Probably would have been better to find somewhere away from the crowds for it to last.
sorry Bren, it was the easiest way to explain it..but you hit the nail on the head..3 Rock is Goober central !
I think jumps should be rollable..if they are people learn quicker..mind you i also believe that before you attempt gap jumps people should master tables..
I was slated myself before for being too hardcore..now I am wiser. Learn and keep learning and remember that unfortunately all manner of people are going to ride your stuff.
Now...whos building the pointy jumps to nowhere and the hucks to corners on 3 Rock..
and you know , we could be very offended that we might be considered as people that roll jumps or wreck jumps by braking on them.
People brake on Jumps..its a fact of life.
Not everybody is as deadly as you and I, Bren !!
and you know , we could be very offended that we might be considered as people that roll jumps or wreck jumps by braking on them.
I was thinking it was probably a beginner or someone inexperienced who wrecked the jump. I posted there because the site gets a lot of traffic, I wasn't trying to insinuate that it was an EPIC club member.
All I asked was for people to show the same consideration for the efforts that go into building a trail that I do, I don't think that is unreasonable.
