Lesson Learned

I learned two valuable cycling lessons this morning.....

1. Climbing Kilmashogue Lane on a road bike as I hard as I could all the way to the top was bloody tough. Although strangely rewarding!!

2. Trying to descend Kilmashogue Lane on a road bike like Lance Armstrong on speed is not parcticulary rewarding nor comfortable. Especially as you spend most of the descent on your arse sliding down the road watching your bike taking the same route 20m ahead. Then you both end up coming together again in a hedge!!!
On reflection this was not the best way to go down Kilmashogue, at least nothing broke me or the bike just a few bruises, some nasty road rash and a destroyed pair of Epic shorts... Looking forward to the new gear already.
Thanks Smithers!! I don't look forward to it...
Really was one of those moments you check yourself very slowly, make sure everything is still where it should be and still works.... Relief!!
Then you think sh!t that was lucky.
Haha rob! And here i was thinking you were WAY better at road cycling than mtb!!! Hope you are ok, see road bikes are evil!
Done that without the fall, on a cx bike though, more grip with 32mm tyres, but with canti breaks struggled to keep things slow, but no fear of locking them up though. Good you weren't hurt.
Thanks guys, yeah hit a wet patch just after the turn in to the carpark, locked the rear and lost it, slid across the road with bike still attached, hit the hedge, mound, fence went head over heels and then continued sliding down the road...
The more I think about it the luckier I feel could have done some serious damage.
now, heres a warning, I have brought in some serious big hitters in to this Club this year and I have to read these Goober episodes on the Forum.
The next member to do something like this is out the door.
Rob, I can relate about that decent (don't tell Ritchie because I don't want to get kicked out already) but I did that climb on the road bike Wednesday night, bloody hard going up to the top, but coming down scared the crap out of me on the wet road, and the flipping cars coming up don't give you any bleeding space, had to stop twice for nearly being knocked into a hedge, ...new brake pads required methinks.

Glad you OK good luck with the road-rash recovery
are you people deranged..can you not come up with stories like you once broke your leg falling down the stairs of a Hotel while trying to feel up a Bridesmaid at a wedding or getting 6 Stitches in your arse from being in the nip in a skip while trying to play anatomical Ludo ? You fell off your bikes because you can't ride them ?
