Peak District & Derbyshire

Anyone been to the Peak District MTBing? what's it like?

Iv Googled & YouTubed it already!

I was there 6 years ago and really enjoyed the place... I think we just took some of these pull out routes from some cycling mags and did the long routes... funny but the mag had easy, moderate, classic and hard - we found out that the hard route (not sure if thats the proper term) were simply fun classic routes backwards, so all the fun descents became nails climbs and all the handy climbs became boring descents, we kept meeting people coming against us scrathcing their heads wondering what the f*** we were doing going the wrong direction. Lovely area though, you should check out the rock climbing too.... world class... even just to get along to a crag and have a look, there's always some hard man doing something crazy...

Been over a few times,lots of trails,briddle paths, ect.Locals very friendly and can get info on best natural trails at any bike shop.Also some Killer trailcentres adjacent to the Area,Whinlatter, Grizdale,Gisburn(home of The Hully Gully),Crag Quarry, Lee Quarry, Better than Wales IMO:cool:
Always stay with friends in Preston so cant recommend any specific place to base from,but one town/village is more picturesque than the next, cant go wrong. Enjoy!

The Lake District..what a place..did you know that famous Irish mountaineer Calvin Torrans was a postman in the Lake District..and they gave him a bike, he used it to scoot around, he never learned to ride the damn thing !i did my best in the early days of Irish MTB to get him to ride a mountainbike , he told me that story and I gave up ! If I'd gotten Calvin on a Mountainbike I'd have retired !

Any chance Oscar rock climbs? Couldn't get Calvin on an MTB, maybe you could get Oscar on an E3!

i'd say we'll get Oscar on an E1...yeah Frenzy has his name all over it !

Good info thanks. What the **** is an E1? Is that like a mitsubishi or speckled elephant?
