I'm sure whoever watched the Redbull TV coverage of the XCO on Saturday heard the Swiss team manager talking about the 27,5 wheel sized bikes...
well it's true, Nino road the race on a XC hardtail with 27,5 inch wheels, Bary Stander road 29 (which was clear to see with his short figure), Absalon rode a 26er

They were saying during the race that going forward the frame size might be tied to a wheel size so a smaller riders would ride S frame + 26inch wheels, M + 27,5inch and L + 29inch..... I suppose that makes sense in a way, but it would be nightmare buying all the different parts, tyres, forks.....

I've been v tempted by the 29ers, almost got a spin on one and all! ;-)

Your right in saying that a 29er only makes sense for Large size frames, too much of a compromise on smaller frames.. Though you see the Elite XCO women who are like 5ft1 on 29ers!

Every MTB'er has an opinion on them, which I am sure will go on for the next few years until everyone either has one or the large bike makers stop selling 26ers! :)

It's like with skis or other sports gear, it has to suit the user and their style. I think both will be around in the future, the clever riders will go for what they feel good on, the others will just follow what's the most popular

The malmutes can hit almost 40kg's! Siberian's are the ones to go for....
