I was wandering around Cycle Surgery in Dundrum yesterday evening (anything to avoid the other shops!) and came across a 2009 Rock Shox Reba Team at â¬725 - I've just bought exactly the same fork from Chain Reaction for â¬445!!!
I can understand that rents etc in Dundrum are expensive - but nearly â¬300 - com'n lads we're not that stupid!
I could also understand if it was a LBS that was buying in 1s and 2s but Cycle Surgery must be getting similar discounts to Chain Reaction?
In my opinion they would need to be very careful or they will become a place to "try-on" gear before ordering on-line!>:(
Typical UK retailer coming here and using a 1 to 1.5 exchange rate, there are people out there stupid enough to spend it though expect to see them in full DH gear parked up in Ballinastoe looking you up and down when you arrive.
they are stupidly expensive. Went up for a spy and a bit of price comparison and they where about 10-15 euro dearer on nearly everything than we are. I can't see them being around for long. Any time i've been there the staff have out numbered the customers
I was in there when they'd just opened, the mechanic guy was sound enough and really seemed to know his stuff, he was just back from Whistler and had been working in a bike shop there, so he must have had a fair bit of practicle experience I'd say. I don't think they'd be too fussed on their prices just yet, they're an English company with 5 or 6 shops over the water, this is just another one to add to the bunch. The only merit I can see is it is, AFAIK, the closest bike shop to Three-Rock, so if you manage to kill your derailer or whatever it's only just down the road to pick up a new one. Hopefully they're get a bit savvy and drop the prices though.

I've been in there a few times as its on my way home from school and anytime i've been in i've had to stand at the counter for a few minutes before anyone would realise i was there, there never seems to be any sign of staff or customers in there, i can't imagine there getting much business at all.
i prived an xt mech in there for 70 euro and its 40 on crc. thats a fairly big difference.
its upstairs aswell which is kind of awkward, i saw a guy having to carry a dh bike up the stairs a while back which isn't nice if its muddy or wet or whatever, especially with how clean and fancy the shop downstairs is.
I have a few random parts that I compare in each bike shop, and they were the dearest by far. thats excluding online shops... just Dublin based ones. I doubt I will ever step foot in there again, and I would sooner go home if my bike broke in 3 rock.
I understand cost base is higher in Ireland, but they are a large outlet, and I would have thought they would have better buying power.
For the record, Bike Rack, and Wheelworks were cheapest in my unnoficcial survey. They also know their oxo's.
