Well the Annual pilgrimage to Lug took place this evening with one significant casualty..Rudolf Brinkman of Racing 795 took a massive huck to splat on the Zig Zags and I mean massive, how he survived with a suspected broken ankle is beyond me..photos and a blog to come, suffice to say we nearly killed Rasher with the climb, broke the record up and down in 2hrs 30 and its gotten even more holes of death than before ..
70kgs my arse Rudy, thank god me and Alfie didn't have to carry Smithers off the Mountain..a big thanks to Paul Coyne for being rescue driver 911 ..carrying that Dutchman down those zig zags has to have been the hardest feckin thing I've ever done ! Nice one kids..Alfie giveing him a Jockeyback has to be my alltime funniest memory though and the poor ******* got so much abuse from the two of us..I think we took the piss out of everything Dutch on the way down..however if you are going to fire yourself off a cliff in Wicklow just as its getting dark then you are in really good hands with Byrners *******s..
Well spin of the year and a crash of the year... doesn't get better than that! Poor Rudolf has to spend the night in Vincent's now... but I suppose it beats being dead on the side of Lug! Get well soon you crazy man
What a spin, that mountain is so so rewarding and a special place to go for an adventure, its not for the faint hearted going up and especially coming back down.
There was literally sparks coming off Rudolfs bike as he clipped off rocks before turning into a human rocket down the mountain. Richie and Alfie will have guns of steel today after carrying him down to the road.
He was spectacular last time, sorry it ended badly on this occasion. Get well soon Rudolf. Well done Richie and Alfie for the rescue, I'd say that was a traumatic experience for him!

I was just thinking the same thing Don! Can you imagine being bounced down the mountainside, in roaring pain, and having to listen to Alfie and Richie berating you about "ruining the spin" etc etc! Fair play lads .... should have left him there .... Ruining your spin like that!
Seems Rudolf had a lucky escape, let's hope he has a speedy recovery. I'm sure he'll say it himself when he gets a chance but in the meantime, from one club to another, thanks for looking after him.
Just a quick update. It's a broken heel bone and Rudolf will have a surgery on it tomorrow, nothing else broken or torn so I suppose it's a good news. He should be back in action by mid July probably.
Holy s..t that climb nearly killed me but well worth it, beautiful Mountain great trails, and bit of action at the end a flying dutchman that nearly killed himself.Thanks lads a great bit of mountain biking ,these boys have serious skill, eating up mad tec trails and Damo on a hardtail. Get well soon rudolf you crazy man .
fair play Rasher..I thought we would have to turn back at Camenabelogue but fair play you kept going and its definitely worth it, the views the whole experience of the Mountain..the mental descents , only the most savage can do this spin in the evening..if I missed some of you regulars on the email, I apologise it was very last minute and I know I didn't get everybody..I hope that wasnt the only time this year it was possible !
Maybe next time we will go from Fentons and head up Lug and then back over by table and in to The Glen itself !
you know..for me MountainBiking is not about the machines..its about the Mountains and the people and while there are at least 3 ******s out there that I will gladly murder with a sharpened plastic spoon..the rest of you that I have met and talked to and shared adventures with, well you are priceless..heres me blog about the adventure http://cyclesuperstoremtb.wordpress....h-the-devil-5/
of course..it was a bit of a rushed one and to be honest it involved the people I was on recent spins with, you would not have enjoyed the pace up....everybody who wears an EPIC jersey should make this their priority..if you want a goal for the year then this is the one..
