full face helmet

Hi there,

I am just recovering from a nasty mtb crash in ticknock. Ended up on a rock with my face (broken jaw,cheekbone, eye socket) and I am now thinking about getting a full face helmet. I am moslty cycling around ticknock, ballinastoe and sometimes doing ranodm runs through wicklow mountains with map in my hands. I am not sure what kind of protection I would get from a full face helmet and I am thinking that maybe it is a bit too much. I was looking at getting a MET Parachute helmet or a proper full face helmet. Is there anyone here who has a parachute helmet, crashed in it and could share the opinion here please?

I'm afraid you won't get much support around here for either a full-face or a MET Parachute helmet for XC riding! Better to learn to ride within your ability and get faster as you get better! Probably why I'm still so slow!!

do not get a full face helmet..get a decent all mountain helmet like a hex or a zen ..if those Met Parachutes were any use , everybody would be wearing them, avoid them.
As Richard says get the skills up..if you're crashing a lot theres something wrong..once upon a time, to be a mountainbiker you had to join a club and somebody would tell you what you are able for , now you can turn up in Ticknock or Ballinastoe, one of which is in a desperate state of disrepair and the other is a non flowing pile of crap thats dangerous to the uninitiated. People are being airlifted off Ticknock at an alarming rate.

Well thanks for the support guys. I dont think I am the best mountain biker out there but in the same time I have been cycling around the mountains for around 10 years now so I dont think I am the worst. I dont crash a lot and the last time I did it was just very unlucky. The reason why I was looking at the met parachute is very simple - for the next 6 months I have to avoid any physical contact with my cheek bones and my jaw but in the same time I dont want to stop cycling and wear full face helmet. Anyway thanks to a decent guy in cycleways and MET advice I bought parachute helmet and overall I am impressed with the way its built and I think it will do the job just fine.

get a met parachute if you dislike your face they are stupid incumbersome helmets that are not only poorly made and dangerous they limit your vision "urge" do nice am helmets
